I am very excited to teach 2nd grade at Willow Lane Elementary School this year! This is my 14th year of teaching and I spent the last 6 years teaching 2nd grade at Seven Generations Charter School in Emmaus, PA. I enjoy all grade levels, but 2nd grade is by far my favorite!
My husband, Rob, and I have lived in Emmaus since 2000 and have found the Lehigh Valley to be an excellent place to raise our two children. My daughter, Tessa, started 6th grade at LMMS this year and my son, Joshua, is in 7th.
In my spare time, I enjoy reading, listening to music, spending time outdoors, and relaxing with my family and friends. I’m looking forward to a successful year!

MathBased on feedback from teachers, principals, and grade-level leaders, the East Penn School District has decided to create solely heterogeneous groups for elementary math instruction beginning with the 2015/2016 school year. Some classrooms will include support staff for students who have remedial needs in math. Heterogeneous grouping affords teachers the opportunity to differentiate according to student needs. Research shows that there are many advantages to mixed ability grouping including but not limited to: · Teachers who work with mixed ability groups set higher standards for ALL students· Mixed ability grouping reduces stigma for lower achieving students· Higher achieving students have better self-esteem in a heterogeneous atmosphere· Teachers are able to address math concepts at times other than the “math period” when working with homeroom students

Responsive Classroom Approach*Design lessons that are active and interactive *Use effective teacher language to promote academic and social growth *Encourage engagement by giving students meaningful choices *Start each day in a way that sets a positive tone for learning *Set high expectations and teach students how to meet them *Establish routines that promote autonomy and independence• Build a sense of community and shared purpose • Teach students 21st century skills such as critical
thinking, problem-solving, communication, collaboration, creativity, and innovation
The goal of logical consequences is to help children develop internal understanding, self-control, and a desire to follow the rules.
-Logical consequences help children look more closely at their behaviors and consider the results of their choices.
-Unlike punishment, where the intention is to make a child feel shamed, the intention of logical consequences is to help children develop internal controls and to learn from their mistakes in a supportive atmosphere.
