The Legend Continues

From the time that Heintzman and Company started to manufacture pianos in Toronto, Canada, unlike many of their competitors, they aimed at high quality rather than low cost instruments. This excellent reputation that was established in 1866 has been maintained for over One Hundred and Forty Years.

Over the years many awards have been presented to Heintzman for innovative improvements to the piano that have given Heintzman superb tone that is described as a “unique voice, one that is all at once sweet, rich, resonant and alive.”

The cabinets are both classic and elegant with a wide variety of finishes.

The original drawings, scale designs and production equipment of the Canadian Heintzman Piano Factory are being utilized by “The Heintzman Piano Company Ltd”. They are introducing new models, as well as improving production techniques, keeping in mind the tradition of high quality and fine workmanship that was established in 1866 by Heintzman and Co. of Toronto, Canada.

“By utilizing the finest materials, combined with traditional design and state of the art technology, the legendary Canadian Heintzman Piano continues!”

James Moffat, Plant MGR of Heintzman Piano Co., Toronto, Canada

New Heintzman Factory in Beijing, China

Heintzman & Co. Ltd. was a Piano manufacturing and retailing business based in Toronto 1866-1978. It was relocated to Hanover, Ont, 1978-86 under the amended name Heintzman Ltd. It was founded by Theodore August Heintzman.

Heintzman received several Canadian patents for improvements that set his pianos apart from all others.

Theodore Heintzman improved the interior quality of his pianos through the invention of the Agraffe bridge, a transverse metal bridge extending across the cast iron frame that keeps the strings from slipping, improves the clarity in treble, and produces a brilliant high tone.

By the time of his death in 1899, Heintzman’s pianos had won at least 11 awards in the United States and throughout the British Empire, including the prestigious William Prince of Wales Medal in London (1886).

Before World War I, the Heintzman name on pianos was probably better known throughout the British Empire than the name of any other Canadian trademark.

70 King Street EastHeintzman’s piano shop was located on King Street East for almost 100 years.

Finest Materials around the world

International Gold Series bass strings from MAPES in the USA provide the beautiful singing quality that Heintzman

pianos are noted for. Mapes premium strings are used by well known brands such as Steinway & Sons, Yamaha and Baldwin.

Strings that Sing

It is important that the pinblock has the capacity to hold the tuning pins tight enough by friction alone, so that all the strings are maintained at the right tension without unwinding, but still allow the piano to be tuned. To do this

Heintzman has employed the very dense, hard material of beech or maple pinblock, made by the European brand - Delignit. Seventeen ply is

used in the uprights and nineteen ply in the grands.

Canadian Bolduc Co uses only hand selected, dried and seasonaed Solid Eastern White Spruce of Premium quality for his soundboards. This exceptionally high quality solid spruce sound board has been utilized by well known brands such as Mason & Hamlin and now Heintzman.

Heintzman makes available one of the finest actions in the world, the Renner action, from Germany to provide the best response for the pianist. Also, Renner Blue Hammers are standard on many professional models.

Unique Structural Design & Features

The beams of the grand pianos are made of top quality solid beech wood. The poured cast grey iron plate stabilizes the over 20 tons of string tension.

Reinforced Structure

The soundboard on Heintzman piano has high quality ribs notched to its edge and the unique Heintzman Accousta Bars help to eliminate undesirable overtones and allow longer sustain. The Six back post structure is made of beech wood on most upright models. These are designed to increase the piano’s stability.

Unique Heintzman Soundboard design and back Posts

Easy to use - Silent Switch system on the left bottom key bed is standard in all uprights. Perfect muting for practising or playing quietly in a small area.

Silent functionhelp you practice quietly

All Heintzman’s have three pedals that initiate the soft function, bass sustain and full sustain. These three functions are standard in all upright models.
