i20 i - inspiration

There’s a new shape on the street and it’s called the Hyundai i20. As you would expect from

a car company that buzzes with fresh ideas, novel solutions and top technology, the i20 is the

epitome of the modern supermini. Sharp and stylish on the outside, spacious and versatile inside, it

combines comfort, safety and reliability in a package that is both affordable and economical. The

flair of the i20 is evident everywhere, from performance and driving dynamics to the thoughtful

design of the car’s simple, everyday features. It is part of a new wave of cutting edge cars from Hyundai.

The i20 sub-compact, is a highly significant addition to the new generation of Hyundai

vehicles identified by the ‘i’ prefix. Designed at Hyundai’s European Design Centre in Russelsheim,

Germany, the chic new five-door i20, rides on a long wheelbase, giving the i20 an athletic

stance and spacious interior architecture. Featuring Hyundai’s distinctive design motifs – a bold

chrome-topped grille flanked by piercing teardrop headlamps at the front, and striking stacked rear light

clusters – the i20’s modern lines are further strengthened by neat detailing, including colour-co-ordinated

bumpers, sills and wing mirrors. The well-packaged interior boasts generous levels of standard equipment.

i – innovation indulge your imagination

Wind noise is reduced by the clean aerodynamics of the i20. The drag

coefficient is a mere 0.33. This has been achieved by flattening the floor,

optimising ground clearance at 150 mm, and incorporating full bumper lips.

The i20 has a “best in class” cooling and heating system. The new variable

displacement compressor controls the amount of refrigerant to minimise the waste

of engine power and increase fuel efficiency. The air-conditioning controls are

ergonomically shaped and centrally placed in the dash board. There are air vents in

the centre, and in the front and rear foot wells to effectively warm or cool the car.

i - ignition powered by inspiration

The i20 offers 1.4 and 1.6 petrol engine options. Both engines are built on the world’s most advanced design, the Hyundai Gamma generation engines. The robust, high performance and fuel efficient Gamma engines provide a lively and exciting vehicle. The Gamma engines feature Continuously Variable Valve Timing, or CVVT, and Dual Overhead Camshafts, or DOHC, to provide a free- revving engine which totally matches the drivers driving mood. Whether it is brisk acceleration or long distance cruising, the Gamma engine optimises every drop of fuel. All this technology is incorporated in the Gamma engines of the i20 to produce very low exhaust CO2 emissions of 133g/km on the 1.4 and 140g/km on the 1.6.

The 1.4 engine produces 74kW at 5500rpm and 136Nm at 4200rpm which accelerates the car to 100km/h in 11.6 seconds and to a top speed of 180km/h. The 1.6 engine produces 91kW at 6300rpm and 156Nm at 4200rpm this accelerates the car to 100km in 9.5 seconds and to a top speed of 190 km/h. The i20 has a newly developed, lighter, stronger and more silent manual transmission. The 5-speed transmission offers an extraordinarily precise and easy shift, with perfect gear ratios.

i - inner flexibility

The i20 is for independent people - those who enjoy weekend shopping, sports or travel. For this reason the i20 has been designed with great flexibility in mind. The light and easy-to-fold rear seats

give a flat loading area, and even when the 60:40 split rear seats are upright there is a huge luggage space, enough for storing large shopping bags, sports or weekend packs. With one or both of the rear

seats down there is room for longer or larger leisure, home or business items.

The high deck, flat floor panel and broad opening to the hatch provide a huge boot capacity of 295 litres, the largest in its class. The class leading opening width of the tailgate allows for easy loading and unloading.
