Functionality and FeaturesTranslation Manager provides functionality that minimizes the time needed to develop, manage,and maintain the data mapping rules that are required to integrate a variety of external datasources with Oracle | Hyperion applications.

Main functional areas of Translation Manager:

l Manage Rules Tables—You use the pages in the Manage Rules Tables area to design, fill,and validate tables of translation rules.

l Manage Preferences—You use the pages in the Manage Preferences area to manage memberlists, validation data sources, and user settings.

l Administration—The Administration menu, which provides access to administrative tasks,is available only to users of the Administrator type. See Chapter 5, “Translation ManagerAdministration.”

Administrators use the Table Settings and Rule Syntax Settings tabs of the User Settings pagein the Manage Preferences area. See “Selecting a Table Settings Option” on page 66 and“Selecting Rule Syntax Characters” on page 66.

Task Flow GuidanceThe Task menu, accessible from the File menu, can help you create and edit rules tables. Whenyou select File > Tasks > Create Rules Table or File > Tasks > Edit Rules Table, the process bardisplays a task flow that guides you through the sequence of tasks that creating or editing a rulestable involves. The Tasks menu can be especially helpful to new users. More experienced usersmight prefer to use other menus, toolbar buttons, or other controls to accomplish the sametasks. For more information about the process bar and task flow guidance, see “Process Bar” onpage 14.

Rule Syntax Translation rules provide the mechanism for mapping or translating data and metadata. Thistypically includes the conversion of metadata members to data dimensions for products such asOracle's Hyperion® Planning – System 9, Oracle's Hyperion® Financial Management – System9, Oracle's Hyperion® Workspace, Oracle's Hyperion® Enterprise®, and Oracle's Hyperion®Pillar®. The rule syntax determines how the translation rules map the data or metadata. It isbased on pattern matching similar to that of LedgerLink.

Data Value Sign ReversalsYou can develop rules that change the sign of a value when a rule is matched. This feature, whichprovides for changes to the natural account sign during data translation, is available on the Editpage.

Comma Separated Value (CSV)Translation Manager uses comma-separated value (CSV) style parsing for import and export offiles, member list upload, and validation data source upload. This is consistent with the MicrosoftExcel style parsing. This means that if a string contains a comma or double quotation marks,the string is surrounded with double quotation marks. For example, the string, Jones,Frankbecomes “Jones,Frank”. If the string starts with quotes around it, such as “Jones,Frank” itbecomes ““Jones,Frank”” in an export file. The import also expects strings in that format.

SecurityTranslation Manager security functionality includes user types, table ownership, and private andpublic viewing and editing.

User TypesIn addition to authentication, users require authorization to use functionality within TranslationManager. There are two user types in Translation Manager: Administrator and User. A user ofthe Administrator type can perform user maintenance using Administration functionality. Onlyusers of the Administrator type can perform user maintenance tasks such as adding, editing orremoving users from the system and changing ownership of tables.

Table OwnershipAll users can edit only the tables that they own. When you create a table, information identifyingyou as the table owner is added to the repository.

Note:

To edit another user’s rules table, an administrator must first change the table ownership. See“Changing Table Ownership” on page 64.

Private and Public Viewing and EditingTranslation Manager uses the concept of private and public viewing and editing of tables. Youcan create, edit, and validate a table in the private folder. When the table is ready for viewing byall users, you can publish it by moving it to the public folder.

Logging OnTasks your system administrator must complete before you can log on to Translation Manager:

l Create a Translation Manager database and set up your user ID and password for accessingit.

l Establish your connection to the database, using Oracle's Hyperion® ConfigurationUtility™.

l Provision you as a Translation Manager user through the User Management Console.

l Start the Web application server.

ä To log on to Translation Manager:

Table Explorer PageThe Table Explorer page, which lists tables to which you have access, is displayed when you logon to Translation Manager. You can also access it from any other page. On Table Explorer, youcan select rules tables to design, edit, and validate, and you can import translation rules tables.

The owner column on Table Explorer indicates the user name of each table’s owner, and theAccess Rights column shows your access rights to each table. If you have Edit access to a table,

Creating Rules TablesYou create a rules table by naming the table and specifying the inputs and outputs for the table.Each input name and each output name must be unique within a table, and you must enter atleast one input name and one output name for each table that you create.

ä To create a rules table:

1 On Table Explorer, click Create to display Manage Rules Tables.

a. Enter each input name in an Input Names box.

b. To make rule matches for an input name case-sensitive, select Case Sensitive to the rightof the input name.

c. To add a row for an additional input name, click Add Input.

d. To clear all information you have entered in Input Names rows, click Clear All immediatelybelow the rows.

4 Add output names to the table:

a. Enter each output name in an Output Names box.

b. To add a row for an additional output name, click Add Output.

c. To clear all information you have entered in Output Names rows, click Clear Allimmediately below the rows.

Tip:

You can click Reset to clear all of your entries.

Changing Rules Table DesignsYou can change a rules table’s design by naming or renaming inputs and outputs, clearing andadding inputs and outputs, and turning case sensitivity on or off for inputs. You make thesedesign changes on the Design page.

Caution!

Changing a table design may invalidate existing rules. Before you change a table design, exportthe table’s rules. After changing the design, you can use Excel to modify the exported rules andthen import the modified rules into the redesigned table.

ä To change a rules table design:

1 On Table Explorer page, select the table for which you change the design.

2 Click the Design Table toolbar button.

3 Take one or more of these actions:

l To change an input name, enter a new name in its place in Input Names.

l To add an input, click Add Input and then, in the new Input Names box, enter a name forthe input.

l To make rule matches for an input name case-sensitive, select Case Sensitive to the right ofthe input name.

l To clear all input information that you have entered, click Clear All immediately below theInput Names boxes.

l To turn off rule-matching case-sensitivity for an input, clear Case Sensitiveto the right ofthe input name.

Editing TablesAfter you create a table and name the inputs and outputs, you can begin entering rules into thetable. You enter the rules on the Edit page.

In the top box on the Edit page, you can select metadata member lists to load into TranslationManager. You can click Hide Lists in the upper left.

You can filter criteria to narrow the display from the member list.

With member lists hidden, you can click Show Lists in the upper right of the page to show themember lists.

You can perform these tasks from the Edit page:

l Enter rules using specific rule syntax for Translation Manager.

l Indicate a reversal of sign for the data values upon a rule match.

l Search for records that are not currently displayed. The default number of records shownat a time is 100. You can change the number of records to display using the User Settingspage. For more information, see “Specifying User Settings” on page 55.

l Display the table in a printable format and then print it.

l Save the rules you have entered. The rules are then validated, and you receive an errormessage informing you of any duplicate rules or syntax errors.

A table is locked while an owner of a table is editing or validating rules. You cannot run anintegration while the table is locked. However, you can always view the table.

Entering and Editing RulesFrom the Edit page, you can enter rules in a new rules table, and you can edit rules in existingrules tables.

ä To enter rules in a new rules table:

1 On the Table Explorer page, use any method to access the Edit page:

l In the view pane, click the name of the table in which you want to enter rules.

l In the content frame, select the table in which you want to enter rules, then click Edit in thecontent frame or on the process bar.

l In the content frame, select the table in which you want to enter rules, then click the EditTable toolbar button.

l In the content frame, select the table in which you want to enter rules, then select File >Manage Tables > Edit.

2 Optional: Select member lists for input and output rules and filter the results.

For instructions, see “Hiding and Showing Member Lists” on page 23.

3 Enter rules using the grid format with a pattern matching syntax.

For details about rule syntax, see Chapter 3, “Translation Rule Syntax.”

Tip:

Instead of entering rules manually, you can import a text rules file to populate a rules table. Forinstructions, see “Importing and Exporting Rules” on page 31.

4 Optional: Use the Search button to find records.

The grid has its own scroll bar. Only a fixed number is shown at one time, but you can use thePrevious and Next buttons to get to more records. You can specify the number of recordsdisplayed at one time on the User Settings page. For instructions, see “Specifying User Settings”on page 55.

5 Optional: Use the buttons on the left above the rules list to add, copy, move, or delete rows in the table.

6 Click Save.

The rules are then validated, and you can resolve any error messages that you receive.

Hiding and Showing Member ListsYou can use the Preferences functionality of Translation Manager to set up member lists thatenable you to use external or application metadata member information. The member lists arethen available on the Edit page.

Member lists are displayed at the top of the Edit page by default. You can hide the lists to makeroom for displaying more rules at one time. If the lists are hidden, you can show them again.

ä To hide the member lists on the Edit page, click Hide Lists in the upper right.

ä To show member lists on the Edit page, click Show Lists in the upper right.

Filtering Member ListsOn the Edit page, you can narrow member lists by specifying and applying filtering criteria.

ä To filter member lists:

1 On the Edit page, with member lists showing, select from the Available Lists list the member list to filter.

2 Click the Filter to the right of the Available Lists box with the name of the list to filter.

3 Enter the filter criteria in Filter Member List.

The basic rule syntax applies to the filter criteria. See Chapter 3, “Translation Rule Syntax.”

4 Select one of the following options:

l To filter on a member, select Member.

l To filter on a description, select Description.

Searching for a ValueYou can search from the current position or the beginning of a table for a specific value.

ä To search for a value:

1 On the Edit page, click Search above the rules list to display Search Rules.

2 FromSearch in column of, select the column in which to search.

3 In Search for, enter the search criteria.

The criteria follow the basic rule syntax. See Chapter 3, “Translation Rule Syntax.”

4 Select Use Wild Card or Match Whole Word.

5 Select Current Position or Beginning of table as the starting point for the search.

6 Click Search.

Sorting Rows in Rules TablesYou can sort the rows in a rules table by column. You can also specify whether the rows appearin ascending or descending order of your sorting criterion.

ä To sort the rows in a rules table:

1 On the Edit page, click Sort above the rules list.

Adding RowsYou can add a specified number of rows to the beginning or end of a table or to another locationwithin the table. To add rows within a table, you must first select the row in the table where youwant the new row placed.

1 From the Edit page, take one action:

a. To insert rows at the beginning or end of the table, click Add.

b. To insert rows within the document, select a row and then click Add to display Add RuleRows.

Validating RulesYou can run a validation data set against the rules you have entered in a table. Before you cando this, you must create a validation data source for the table and upload validation data. Forinstructions, see “Creating Validation Data Sources” on page 51.

Note:

A table is locked while an owner of a table is editing or validating rules. You cannot run anintegration while the table is locked. However, you can always view the table.

ä To validate your rules:

1 Click the Table Explorer toolbar button to access the Table Explorer page if it is not already displayed.

2 In the view pane, select the folder containing the rules table to validate.

3 In the content frame, select the rules table to validate.

4 Display the Validate page by any method:

l Select File > Manage Tables > Validate.

l Click Validate on the process bar.

l Click the Validate toolbar button.

5 Select a validation data source.

6 Click Validate.

The system validates the table and, by default, displays exceptions only.

7 Optional: To see all rows in the table, select View all rows.

8 Optional: Take one or more of these actions:

l To display additional records, use the vertical scroll bar, click Next or Previous, or click thenumber of the page to display.

l To display additional columns, use the horizontal scroll bar.

l Click Filter to specify criteria and display only records that meet them. For detailedinstructions, see “Filtering Validation Results” on page 30.

l Click Reset to remove a filter.

l Click Print to display a printable version of the current view of the data.

Filtering Validation ResultsAfter you validate a table, you can filter the validation results to show only results that meet a ccriterion. For example, you can display the results only for inputs that contain the numbersstarting with 300. You can filter on one criterion at a time.

ä To filter validation results:

1 From the validation results list, select one of the following options:

l View exceptions only to list only rows with rules that were not validated

l View all rows to list all rows in the table, with rows for rules that could not be validateddisplayed in red

2 Click Filter to display Filter Validation Results.

3 From Filter on column, select the column to which to apply criteria.

4 In Enter filter, enter the criterion to apply.

For example, if you selected the input column in step 3, you might enter AAA to list only rowswith the input AAA.

5 Select one option:

l Use wildcards if the criterion you entered in step 4 includes wildcard characters

l Match whole word to show only the rows where the column exactly matches the criterionyou entered in step 4, with no other characters

For example, suppose that the validation results include rows with the inputs StarAAA,RegAAA3, and AAA. If you enter *AAA* as you criterion and select the Use wildcards option,all of those rows are displayed in the filtered list; if you enter AAA as your criterion and select

6 Click Filter.

Removing Validation Results Filters

ä To remove a filter from rules table validation results, click Reset.

The unfiltered results list is displayed.

Importing and Exporting RulesYou can import a text file in comma delimited format into a table that you have set up to receivethis file. After importing information, if you save the results, the import overwrites any existinginformation in the table.

You can export Translation Manager tables and edited them offline using Microsoft Excel. Youcan then import the tables back into Translation Manager. This enables you to create or maintainrules when you are not connected to the network.

The Import/Export function is especially useful if you are changing a table’s format. You shouldexport rules prior to any changes in a table’s format. Then after the format has been changed,you can import them back into the new table.

Translation Manager uses comma separated value (CSV) style parsing for import and export offiles, member list upload, and validation data source upload. This is consistent with the MicrosoftExcel style parsing. This means that if a string contains a comma or a double quote, the stringis surrounded with double quotation marks and any quotation marks within the string aredelimited by another set of quotation mark. For example, the string Jones,Frank becomes“Jones,Frank”. If a string starts and ends with quotation marks, they are enclosed within a newset of quotation marks in the export file, so that “Jones,Frank” becomes ““Jones,Frank””. Theimport also expects strings in that format.

Note:

When you upload files containing non-English data, the files must be saved with UTF-8encoding. You must insure that the editor used to create or edit these files allows you to savewith this encoding. For example, Notepad allows you to specify an encoding in the “Save As”option.

Importing RulesThe file format contains a header line consisting of the column names, followed by the rules.The columns may then be in any order, because the column names in the header determineplacement. For example:

ä To import a rules file into a table:

1 On the Table Explorer, select the table.

2 Click Import/Export to display Import/Export Table Rules.

3 Enter the name of the file to import, or click Browse to locate the file.

4 Click Import.

The system displays a message that the file upload is in progress and that you should not performother actions. If the import succeeds, the Edit page displays the rules imported from the file asthe rules for the table. Otherwise, an error message is displayed on the Import/Export TableRules page.

5 On the Edit page, to save the results of the import, click Save.

Exporting RulesYou can export rules to a text file in comma delimited format. The file format contains a headerline consisting of the column names, followed by the rules. The export file contains the columnsin the following order: inputs, reverse sign, outputs.

The export function is especially useful if you are changing a table’s format. You should exportrules prior any changes in a table’s format. Then after the format has been changed, use Excelto modify the exported rules and then import them back into the new table.

Note:

All export files are saved with a UTF-8 encoding.

1 On Table Explorer, select the rules table to export.

2 Click Import/Export.

5 From Save in, select the directory in which to save the exported file.

6 In File name, enter a name for the export file, or select a file from the list.

The default file name is the table name with the.txt extension.

You can select Text Document or All files from the “Save as type” list to control the contents ofthe file list.

7 Click Save.

Translation Rules OverviewTranslation rules provide the mechanism for mapping or translating data and metadata. Thistypically includes the conversion of metadata members to data dimensions for various productssuch as Hyperion Enterprise, Oracle's Hyperion® Pillar®, and Oracle's Hyperion® Planning –System 9. The rules syntax, which is based on pattern-matching, determines how the translationrules map the data or metadata.

Manage Preferences PagesUsing the Manage Preferences pages, you can manage these items:

l Member list folders and member lists—Member lists are application-specific metadata andare used as help lists to create rules. Member lists are organized into folders. For moreinformation, see “Managing Member List Folders and Member Lists” on page 43.

l Validation data—Validation data sources are data files associated with specified rules tables.The files are run against rules to verify the rules. For more information, see “ValidationData” on page 50.

l User settings—User settings control the display of records on each page. For moreinformation, see “Specifying User Settings” on page 55.

Managing Member List Folders and Member ListsYou can group member lists into folders according to applications or according to categories(such as Accounts, Entities, or Default) within the applications. The Default folder alwaysremains in the system. You can create or rename a folder, and you can delete an empty folder.

You can create a member list in a specified folder. The member list name is specified and thesource file of the list is uploaded and stored in RDBMS for further access. You can view thespecified member list, update it by uploading a new source file to replace the data in the RDBMS,rename the member list, move it to any folder, or delete the member list.

You manage member list folders and member lists from the Member Lists page.

ä To access Member Lists from any other page, select File > Preferences > Member Lists.

Managing Member List FoldersA list of available member list folders is displayed under Member List Folders on the MemberList page. You can create a folder, rename a folder, or delete an empty folder.

Creating Member List FoldersYou can create one or more member list folders to hold the member lists associated with anapplication, such as Accounts or Entities.

1 On the Member Lists page, above Member Lists Folders, click Create.

2 Above Member Lists Folders, click Rename.

3 In Rename Member List Folder, enter a new name for the member list folder and click Rename.

On the Member Lists page, the new folder name replaces the old one under Member List Folders.

Deleting Member List FoldersYou can delete a member list folder that is empty. Attempting to delete a member list folder thathas a member list in it produces an error message. You can delete only one folder at a time.

ä To delete an empty member list folder:

1 On Member Lists , under Member Lists Folders, select the folder to delete.

2 Above Member Lists Folders, click Delete.

3 When prompted to confirm the deletion, click OK.

Creating Member ListsGuidelines:

l Member lists have a two-field delimited file upload format. The field delimiter is user-definable, and the input fields are positional. The file format is as follows:

l Each field can contain a maximum of 80 characters.

l The sample files provided as part of the Translation Manager installation were generatedfrom a Hyperion Enterprise system extract file with a sample applications. The samplemember list files use an exclamation point (!) as the delimiter.

ä To create a member list:

1 On Member Lists , under Member List Folders, click the name of the folder in which to create the memberlist.

The folder is opened, and its contents are listed under Member List.

2 Above Member List, click Create.

Validation DataAll validation data sources are associated with available rules tables. A validation data sourcemust match the schema of the rules table with which it is associated.

On the Validation Data page, you can create validation data sources for a specified rules table.You can also view, date, rename, and delete validation data sources.

The Validation Data page includes two lists: Available Rules Tables and Validation Data Sources.When you select a rules table under Available Rules Tables, the validation data sources for theselected table are listed under Validation Data Sources.

6 Click Create.

Note:

On the Validation Data page, the new name replaces the old name under Validation DataSources.

Deleting Validation Data Sources

ä To delete a validation data source:

1 Access the Validation Data page. See “Accessing the Validation Data Page” on page 51.

2 Under Available Rules Tables, select the rules table with the validation data source to delete.

3 Under Validation Data Sources, select the validation data source to delete.

Tip:

To select all validation data sources in the list, select the check box next to the Validation Dataheader.

4 Click Delete.

5 When prompted to confirm the deletion, click OK.

Specifying User SettingsOn the User Settings page, you can specify a default setup for the Edit and Validate Table pages.Users of the Administrator type can also perform these tasks from the User Settings page:

l Specify whether Translation Adapter users can run integrations while rules tables are beingedited in Translation Manager. See “Selecting a Table Settings Option” on page 66.

l Define their own syntax for pattern matching to ensure that translation results are correct.See “Selecting Rule Syntax Characters” on page 66.

Accessing the User Settings PageFrom User Settings, you can set defaults for the Edit and Validate Table pages, an option forpessimistic or optimistic table locking, and the start and end characters for output patterns.

Synchronizing UsersAfter you provision users or remove provisioning for users from the Shared Services UserManagement Console, you must synchronize the Shared Services list of provisioned users withTranslation Manager. You use the Administration menu in Translation Manager to synchronizethe lists.

ä To synchronize the Translation Manager user list with the Shared Services list of provisionedusers:

1 Select Administration > User Management > Synchronization.

The User List dialog box is displayed. It shows all the users on the Translation Manager user list.

Selecting a Table Settings OptionThe Table Settings tab of User Preferences specifies whether Translation Adapter users can runintegrations while tables are being edited in Translation Manager. Only users of theAdministrator type can change the setting on this tab.

ä To change the Table Settings option:

1 Access User Preferences. For instructions, see “User Preference Page” on page 65.

2 Select the Table Settings tab.

3 Select one Table Lock Type option:

l Enable running integrations while in edit mode: Prevent Translation Adapter users fromrunning integrations referencing rules tables while the tables are being edited.

Caution!

Running an integration while a table is being edited can compromise the integrity of theintegration results.

l Disable running integrations while in edit mode: Prevent Translation Adapter users fromrunning integrations referencing rules tables while the tables are being edited.

Selecting Rule Syntax CharactersOn the Rule Syntax Settings tab of the User Preferences, you can define your own syntax forpattern matching if you are a user of the Administrator type. This feature is useful for ensuringthat a specific type of data is regarded as conforming to a syntax rule so that translation resultsare correct.

Hyperion recommends caution in defining rule syntax, for two reasons:

l Changing the syntax can confuse other users who follow standard rule syntax guidelines andfind out later that the rule syntax was changed.

l Changing the syntax after rules are defined with older syntax characters can lead to problemswith integrations; the syntax may be regarded as data, or the data may be regarded as syntax.To avoid these problems, ensure that the data and rule syntax in existing tables do not conflictconflicts with the new rule syntax characters.

Task 1: Creating a Translation TableYou can Translation Manager tables that use multiple input and output fields. This enables youto establish translation rule logic that depends on multiple input values. You can also translatesingle or multiple input fields to multiple output fields. Creating a translation table is the firststep before creating or importing your first rules.

ä To create a translation table:

1 Log on to Translation Manager:

a. Open the Logon page using either method:

l From the Windows Start menu, select Programs > Hyperion > Translation Manager> Translation Manager.

l Navigate to http://Server:Port/HyperionTranslationManager, whereServer is the name of the computer hosting Web application server and Port isnumber of the port that listens for HTTP requests.

b. In the User Name box on the Logon page, enter your user ID.

c. In the Password box, enter your password.

d. Click Log On.

Table Explorer is displayed.

2 On Table Explorer, click Create.

Create Table is displayed.

3 In Enter the new rules table name, enter a unique name for the rules table; for exampleRuleExample.

Task 2: Importing Data into a Translation TableNow that you have created a table, you can either create rules or import ASCII data sources thatare properly formatted in the right syntax into Translation Manager. This task provides a quickstart that enables you to become familiar with the pattern-matching rule syntax.

Note:

This task assumes that you have completed “Task 1: Creating a Translation Table” on page 70.

ä To import a rules file:

1 Click Table Explorer button on the process bar to access the Table Explorer page if another page is displayed.

Tip:

If the cursor rests on a toolbar button for a few seconds, the title of the button is displayed.

2 In the view pane, select the Private folder if it is not already selected.

3 In the content frame, select the rules table that you created in “Task 1: Creating a Translation Table” onpage 70, then click Import/Export.

Tip:

Instead of clicking the Import/Export button in the content frame, you can click the Import/Export Table button on the toolbar, or you can click Import/Export in the process bar.

The Import/Export page for the selected table is displayed.

4 Click Browse and navigate to this directory: drive:\Hyperion\TranslationManager\9.3\Samples\ImportExport

5 Double-click the sample file RuleExamples.txt.

6 Click Import.

When the import succeeds, the Edit page is displayed, and the imported translation rules arelisted at the bottom of the Edit page.

A message at the top of the Edit page confirms that the imported rules have been saved.

The sample imported file (RuleExample.txt) contains example rules for all the valid inputpattern matching formats as well as output field string movement directives. This demonstratesthe rule syntax and is not meant as a business example.

General Notesl You can click Hide Lists to hide the upper frame of the Edit page and view more translation

rules.

l Input fields may contain a maximum of 80 characters.

l The format of an import file is CSV (comma separated value or comma delimited) with thefirst record reserved for field name identifiers. A one-input and one-output table format isas follows:

Task 3: Loading a Validation Data SourceYou can validate translation rules in Translation Manager while they are being developed, butfirst you must load validation data sources into the system. A validation data source is anydelimited ASCII file that contains representative data to be translated.

An existing application data load file is an excellent starting point for creating a validation datasource. You can also use Application Link to format a file that can be loaded into the system.

Input fields are positional and should match the format of your translation table.The input fields must be positioned within each record as they are in the translation table. Aftera validation source is loaded, you can verify translated data results during an editing session orfrom the Table Explorer.

ä To load a validation data source:

1 From any Translation Manager page, select File > Preferences > Validation Data.

Task 5: Exporting a Translation TableTranslation Manager tables can be exported, edited offline with Excel, then imported back intoTranslation Manager. Exporting is also useful when you want to change a table’s format so that youthe rules can be saved and then imported back into Translation Manager after the table formatchanges.

The CVS (comma-separated values) file format is supported by Microsoft Excel. Saving the filewith the.cvs extension ensures that it is in this format.

Task 6: Creating Member ListsTranslation Manager supports an ease-of-use feature called Member Lists. This feature enablesyou to import an ASCII file that contains external or application metadata member information.These lists then become available for use when you edit a translation table.

This task familiarizes you with the process of creating your own member lists. Here is somegeneral information about member lists:

l Member lists have a two field-delimited file import format. The field delimiter is userdefinable and the input fields are positional. The file format is as follows:

[MemberName][Delimiter][MemberDescription]

l Each field can contain a maximum of 80 characters

l The sample files are available as examples and were generated from a Oracle's Hyperion®Enterprise® system extract file using a sample application. The sample member list files usean exclamation point ( ! ) as the delimiter.

ä To create member lists:

1 From any page, select File > Preferences > Member Lists.

Member Lists is displayed.

2 Click Create above Member List to display Create Member List.

Task 8: Managing Tables with Table ExplorerThis task shows how to perform common table management tasks such as copying, renaming,and deleting tables and moving a table between directories.

Translation Manager uses the concept of public and private tables. Private tables can be accessedonly by their owners. Public tables are available for all users to view. You can edit a public tableif you own it or have Edit access rights to it.

When you create a table, you become its owner, but users of the Administrator type can changetable ownership. Administrators can also assign access rights to tables. See “Changing TableOwnership” on page 64.

ä To copy a translation table:

1 Click the Table Explorer button to access the Table Explorer page if it is not already displayed.

2 In the view pane, select the Private folder if it is not already selected.

Translation Adapter is an Application Link interface into TranslationManager. Note:

Before building an Application Link flow diagram, you must have Application Link (Full Use)and Translation Adapter installed. This task also requires an active Translation Managerapplication server.

ä To use Translation Adapter within an Application Link flow diagram:

1 Make sure that you are logged on to Translation Manager.

2 Launch Application Link.

3 Open the sample adapter project called ExampleRules.prp, which is installed by default in thefollowing directory: drive:\Hyperion\TranslationManager\9.3\Samples\HAL

4 Double-click any Example Translation Adapter instance.

13 Click OK to save your changes and close the adapter dialog box.

14 From the Application Link flow diagram, select File > Save.

15 Click F5 to run this adapter process.

16 Review the results of the translation. If the adapter process succeeds, the translation results open in Notepad.If the adapter process fails, correct any errors and try again. Adapter process errors are frequently causedby typos such as mistyped file names, directory names, or user names.

Task 10: Modifying Translation Adapter Design Time PropertiesThis task helps you become familiar with the Translation Adapter design time dialog box tabsand the ports available at runtime.

4 Enter logon information (server name, user name, and password).

The Rules tab is displayed.

You can select a translation table from Select Rules Table. Your user name determines whattables you can access. You can also control how untranslatable values are handled.

5 Select the RulePreview tab.

From this tab, you can verify that the correct table has been selected by previewing a few rulesfrom the selected translation table. You cannot modify any information on this tab.

6 Select the ValuePorts tab.

From this tab, you can specify value ports that reverse the sign of any values being passed throughTranslation Adapter. These ports are not required if you are not changing the sign of any values.

7 Select the Errors tab.

From this tab, you can control where the translation exception file gets created and whether loginformation should be appended or overwritten.

8 Click OK to close the adapter dialog.

9 Select the Translate method from the adapter drop-down list.

10 Right-click the adapter and select Show All Ports.
