Hydrocarbons are playing a vital role in powering the industrial growth of India

We use products of hydrocarbons in our day to day life

As per the scientists the usage of

hydrocarbon products is going to be more than double in the next 15 years

Assure energy security. Enhance quality of life. Hydrocarbon sector a globally

competitive industry Free market and promote healthy

competition among players .  Ensure oil security for the country

keeping strategic and defense considerations. .

Intensification of exploration efforts and achievement of 100% coverage of unexplored basins.

Focuses on long term energy security by achieving self reliance.

To develop regulatory and legislative framework for providing oil/gas security for the country

The exploration & production and refining sectors opened for private participation.

The consumer prices for all petroleum products,

except MS, HSD, ATF, Kerosene Oil and LPG was decontrolled(Administered Price Mechanism).

Phasing of subsidies has not been envisaged for LPG and kerosene.

In order to phase out the prices for the remaining products also, this has become an initiative.

The following table reveals the perspective planning of fuel options:

Exploration and Production: To undertake a total appraisal of the Indian

sedimentary basins for hydrocarbon potential To optimize production of crude oil and natural gas in

the most efficient manner

Refining:India has a large refining capacity.Investment in production assets overseas will give

them a distinct competitive advantage on a global scale.

Marketing:Recommended that only those companies willing to

invest Rs 2000 crore either in E&P or refining should have access to marketing.

Marketing deregulation expected next year, operational restrictions to be removed for a smooth transition into a free market scenario

The country is left with a huge oil pool deficit mainly because of the large imports and the administered price mechanism of the products.

The long-term goal of the government to increase oil production and reduce imports.

The Hydrocarbons Vision 2025 no doubt spells out the government's strategy and operational style with regard to this vital industry.
