Thanks to the large force available for actuation
and the use of the steel/sinter com bination,
w hich has very low w ear characteristics,
hy d raulically actuated O rtlinghaus S inus®
m ulti-p late clutches, brakes and clutch/brake
com bined units are suitable for a range of
ap p lications in m echanical engineering, m otor
vehicles and transm ission sy stem s.
The cooling oil, w hich is led through the p lates
in a p recise m anner, allow s the heat, w hich
varies d ep end ing on the p articular ap p lication,
to be d issip ated efficiently .
To a very large ex tent these clutches and brakes
are w ear free and req uire no m aintenance!
Clutch/brake combined units for wet-
running
1 /2 S eries 0 0 2 3 and 0 1 2 3
C lutch/brake com bined units are recognised as
being safe and reliable for d riving p resses,
m etal-form ing and m achine tools, shears and
sim ilar m achines. They conform w ith the w ell
know n safety req uirem ents as laid d ow n in the
relevant E C d irectives.
The torq ue transm itting cap ability and the
sw itching cap acity can be influenced over a w id e
range, by the correct selection of the num ber of
friction surfaces.
The heat generated from a p articular ap p lication
can be d issip ated efficiently w ith the aid of a
carefully d esigned cooling oil sy stem .
The shaft hub connection is w ith a d ouble
key w ay in the case of series 0 0 2 3 ; in the case of
series 0 1 2 3 , either a d ouble key w ay or a locking
assem ble can be selected .

P ressure and cooling oil intake: V ia rotary inlet
through the shaft.
A p p lication: In stam p ing, em bossing and

This version can be p ut to use universally as a

A clutch for heavy-duty drives; normal version
with shoulder housing and without “ emergency
engagement facility“ . A version with
“ emergency engagement facility“ is also
available.
L arge hub bores are possible. These clutches can
be manufactured to conform to the acceptance
conditions of the classification institutions for
marine engineering.
Friction combination: Steel/sinter lining
Pressure and cooling oil intake: Via rotary inlet
through the shaft.
Operating pressure: 25 bar
Areas of application: U sed in marine
engineering for reversing gears, variable pitch
propeller drives and multi-motor drives.
Sinus® multi-plate clutches for wet-run-
ning; version for high thermal loading
5 Series 0-002
A clutch for heavy duty drives of all types in
which a high level of engaging/disengaging work
has to be performed; normally supplied with a
flange or shoulder housing and without
“ emergency engagement facility“ . A version with
“ emergency engagement facility“ is also available.
These clutches can be manufactured to conform
to the acceptance conditions of the classification
institutions for marine engineering.
Friction combination: Steel/sinter lining
Pressure and cooling oil intake: Via rotary inlet
through the shaft
Operating pressure: 24 bar
Areas of application: U sed in marine
engineering for reversing gears, variable pitch
propeller drives, multi-motor drives and power
take off drives.
Spring-applied, hy draulically released
multi-plate brakes for wet- or
dry -running, non centering

Spring-applied fail safe brakes with a housing
which does not have a centering function; for
this reason these brakes are primarily used on
shaft ends and outside gearboxes.
Variations include a closed end flange and an
open end flange, which would allow a shaft to
pass through.
The “ wet-running plates“ are lubricated initially
by soaking in oil or by means of oil stored in the
