eThe Hyde GroupWe began in 1967 when the country’s major cities were still struggling to overcome the impact of World War II. This was at
a time when demand for decent affordable housing outstripped the capacity of the building industry to supply. The Hyde
Group’s founding members – Michael Hollingsworth, Ted Watts and John Childs – were dedicated to ensuring Hyde could
intervene in the housing market by helping to ease the circumstances of those in greatest need and by providing products and
services that would help people achieve their ambition of a home of their own. Over the years Hyde has remained true to this
and today does much more than just provides housing. It is an agent for social change; it improves the quality of people’s lives
by helping to create a sustainable, inclusive and thriving community – in short places people are proud to call ‘their home’.
Hyde Environment Matters
Hyde has been at the front of the sustainable agenda through class leading projects starting back in 2000. Our work has been
recognised by numerous awards along the way and we are proud of our achievements. In 2011 we took an important step
by truly integrating environmental sustainability into everything we do - providing consistency across the Group. Hyde holds an
international award for its Environmental Sustainability Performance - this is audited every year. This award is known as ISO14001.
Hyde’s Values
Our five new values have been through extensive consultation as it’s important that they are meaningful to everyone and easy
to put into practice. These values are;
Valuing people: Putting all our residents and customers at the heart of what we do,.
Taking responsibility: Taking personal responsibility and ownership for our actions and for getting things done.
Behaving with integrity: Behaving honestly and openly and conducting our business in a transparent manner.
Working together: Working as an effective team and working effectively with customers and stakeholders.
Being innovative: Being open to change, new ideas and improvement using creative solutions to implementing best practice.
Awards for our excellence
Winning awards is how the Hyde Group celebrates making a lasting difference to our residents providing homes and services
of the highest quality and creating thriving communities. Winning awards is a clear indication that we are delivering on our
promises and we are extremely proud to have been successful in a number of awards, including:
• Evening Standard New Homes 2012 Awards - Best Regeneration Project - Packington (Winner)
• What House? Award 2012 - Best Development - Packington (Winner)
• TPAS Awards 2012 - Resident of The Year - Caroline Benford (Winner)
• British Youth Council - Youth On Board Inspiring Project Award - Hyde Plus Youth Bank (Winner)
• London Planning Awards 2013 - Best Built Project, 5 Years On - Hillside (Highly Commended)- Best Place to Live - Packington
(Highly Commended)
• Housing Innovation Award - Most Innovative Affordable Housing Scheme - Packington
We are not just about great buildings and community services; many parts of the business deserve recognition too. If you know of any professional awards that individual staff or teams could put themselves forward for, then please send details and suggestions to [email protected].

Landscaping and Sustainability Strategy: The stepping back of the bulk of the elevation to the road and the building orientation has allowed the creation of a generous south facing landscaped
amenity space to the Davigdor Road Facade. Access to the main entrances for the ground floor offices and the residential units from Davigdor Road will pass
through this space. The landscaping will consist of good quality staggered paving with raised and flush planting beds. There will also be a selection of trees
planted within the space along with benching and low level lighting to enhance the overall amenity and ambiance. The landscaping will be backed by a
decorative perforated screen to the rear at ground floor which acts to provide ventilation and visual screening to the refuse and recycling/bicycle stores.
To ensure the new building is truly sustainable now and in the future, the design team are considering all social, economic and environmental issues associated
with such a project. Environmentally, the ground floor office portion of the scheme is to achieve the standard of BREEAM VERY GOOD and the residential
portion will need to meet the requirements of Lifetime Homes Code Level 4. To achieve this standard the building will need to be built and operate more
efficiently and effectively than required by the minimal standards set by current building regulations.
The Design Team are working together to ensure the correct construction techniques are used to reduce the embodied energy of the building and that its form
and materials aid natural ventilation and increase daylight throughout the building. This prevents the need for air-conditioning and reduces the use of artificial
lighting, which in turn will decrease the running costs of the building. In addition to the low tech, integral design solutions, renewable technologies such as
photo voltaic panels are being considered for heating, or power requirements.
