    How We Organize OurselvesOver the coming weeks students will be looking into how we organize ourselves. This unit is an inquiry into the interconnectedness of

    human-made systems and communities; the structure and function of organizations; societal decision making; economic activities and

    their impact on humankind and the environment.

    Students will have an opportunity to look closely at production, processing, transport and the various individuals who work within acommunity system.

    Central Idea People work to produce, process and transport the goods we use.

    Key Concepts Funcon- How does it work? Students will have an opportunity to look

    closely at producon, processing, transport and the various individuals who

    work within a community system.

    Connecon How is it connected to other things? Which includes coopera-

    on, collecve responsibility, commitment.

    Transdisciplinary Speaking and Listening: Explain the process a product goes through

    Viewing and Presenng: People use stac and moving images to communi-

    cate ideas and informaon. Create owcharts and slideshows. Use infor-maon from viewed presentaons to create a slideshow or ow chart of our

    own

    Wring :Procedural wringread, and write informaon in ow charts.

    Transdisciplinary Fractions are ways of representing whole part relationships. Frac-

    tions are equal parts of a whole.

    Concept of unequal sharing. Concept of equal sharing of a region or setusing materials.

    Extend to using to materials or imaging materials to solve simple prob-lems eg. of 8.

    Use fractions in real life situations

    Fractions linked with time and shape and space

    3D shapes- what 3D shapes are appropriate for packaging of

    goods.

    Analyse and describe the relationships between 2D and 3D shapes.

    Understand that directions can be used to describe positions andboundaries specific vocabulary -flip, slide, turn (use boxes and askstudents to fit the boxes together in the most economical size)
