The teachers and amazing support staff have been preparing this past week to welcome you all on Monday, August 6 at 7:40 for the start of what we call home to an amazing year. WELCOME NEW TEACHERS AND STAFF We welcome a number of new teachers as our school continues to grow. We now have the largest enrollment in the school’s history! *Teaching 7 th /8 th grade English and history, Ms. Marisol Alba *Teaching high school art part time and counselor for grades 7, 9, and 11, Ms. Gabriele Bailey *Teaching high school math, Mr. Mauro Dominguez *Teaching 7 th grade math and science, Mr. Mauricio Gallego *Teaching biology, Ms. Christine Hahn *Teaching 6 th grade, Mr. Mark Payumo *Teaching 8 th grade, Ms. Alvaro Roque *Teaching 7 th and 8 th grade math/science, Mr. Larry Shelton Some other changes: *Ms. Vanessa DeAvila is now the counselor for grades 6, 8,, 10, and 12 *Ms. Carol Burchards is now the LA Mission College Coordinator and Online Learning/Independent Study Teacher *Mr. Tim Minnig is now a Special Education teacher New to the military staff: *CPT Olivia Chavez Carroll, TAC Officer for Charlie Company *Sgt Jorge Lopez, TAC NCO for Alpha Company *Airman Allan Valladares, Assistant Band Director PARADE THIS SATURDAY Our first parade of the year will be this Saturday, August 4 for the La Habra Corn Festival. Permission slips were distributed at the orientations Wednesday and Thursday August 1 and 2. One is included with this Hawk Weekly. Please return the signed slip to the main office in portable 68 by Friday August 3 at 4PM. If you have questions about the parade, please email me at [email protected].

BAND MEMBERSHIP If you have ever thought about wanting to learn to play a musical instrument, you should consider joining the NVMI band. You do not need to already know how to play an instrument to join. We will teach you! Available instruments include: FLUTE AND PICCOLO CLARINET AND BASS CLARINET SAXOPHONES (ALTO, TENOR, AND BARITONE) TRUMPET AND BUGLE EUPHONIUMS AND FRENCH HORNS TUBA/SOUSAPHONE DRUMS AND PERCUSSSION, INCLUDING BELLS Please contact TSgt Carganilla at [email protected] to join or go see him Monday, August 6 in room 97. You need to join right now so you have as much time as possible to learn the instrument. SERVICE OPPORTUNITY: NVMI has adopted the Veterans of Foreign Wars in Granada Hills and will help cleaning beginning next Saturday, August 11. Here is a schedule of Saturdays when cleaning will take place:

A permission slip for this is also included later in this Hawk Weekly. Please return the signed slip to SGT Perez. NVMI does not provide transportation to/from this service opportunity. You must get your own ride to/from the Granada Hills VFW post.

UNIFORM REMINDERS: Uniform of the day is:

MONDAY – PT TUESDAY – PT WEDNESDAY – CLASS B THURSDAY – PT FRIDAY – PT

Always wear a complete uniform and be sure you meet uniform wear and appearance standards. Check out pages 183-184 of the planner for an easy to use checklist each morning as you prepare your uniform.

DIRECTIONS TO OUR CAMPUS

The NVMI entrance to campus is through the ALLEGHENY ENTRY GATE at the intersection of Allegheny Street and Kewen Avenue in Sun Valley. (There will be no regular entry from Telfair Avenue)

Dropoffs and Pickups will be ONE-WAY on Allegheny Street, entering from Telfair Avenue (See map above)
