Selection CriteriaThere are a number of criteria that selectors of the U/13 to U/17 Male & Female Hurricanes State Championship programs will consider when selecting squads and representative teams each season. These include (but not limited to) all of the following:
1. Talent Identification
• Natural talent in at least ONE skill, with potential in other aspects of the game smaller young player with excellent technical skills but not the strength "yet" to score big runs.
• Young fast bowler with lots of pace without taking too many wickets at that stage.
• Athleticism or potential to be athletic tall, strong athlete who could become a bowler in futures years.
• Spinners who turn the ball but may not yet have the control• Competitor on the field and at training• Desire to be in a contest, determination to compete at all times• Attitude and mental strength• Willingness to listen and learn about the game• Passion for the game• Multi-skilled players who make themselves far more selectable.
Selection Criteria2. Performances
• Games for representative teams during that particular season (U11 through to U17).
• Premier, Community & Grade clubs during that particular season (U11 through to U17).
• School matches in relevant competitions.
3. Coaches Reports
• Coaches from various clubs, teams, associations and schools should provide reports and feedback on players who show the skills and attitudes required to be part of State Championship programs. This ensures selectors are well informed prior to a player attending any trials.
• We recommend Club Coaches utilise the Junior Formats ‘Score Cards’ for Junior Club Cricketers and provide a copy with the player nomination.
• Representative Coaches can utilise the AMS Pathway Player Progress Report
Selection Criteria4. Cricket
• This is based on producing and developing positive, confident cricketers who move the game forward in all aspects.
5. Character
• Select cricketers of character, with high expectations of themselves, who continually strive to get better and improve - skilled, athletic and smart cricketers.
Note: The selection criteria is a ‘guide’ only. The criteria provides selectors with basic framework in which to operate and form opinion on ‘talent’.
