Truck Haul project FEMA issued a conditional funding approval combining
Hurricanes Matthew and Irma emergency beach berms. FEMA’s project completion deadline is June 30, 2022. The St Johns County Board of County Commissioners voted to
approve this project on June 15, 2021.

Sand loading in Keystone Heights begins at 4:00 AM
Contractor will spread out trucks to minimize traffic impacts
Trucks will travel through Nocatee’shighways and over the Palm Valley Bridge
Trucks will stage at Cornerstone Park before being sent to beach access points
Sand placement will occur between 7:00 AM – 5:00 PM, Monday through Saturday

965 PV Blvd and Micklers will be used to transfer sand to the beach
Micklers will be partially open on Saturdays and Sundays

2-way radio communication and GPS tracking to manage the flow of trucks to lessen traffic impacts.

Project Duration Per Section8
Work areas will consist of approximately 1,000 to 2,500 feet of beach, which will be closed to the public during project construction.
Multiple work areas may be in place at any given time throughout the project.
Equipment is not expected to stay in a single area more than three days at a time.
Environmental and Cultural Considerations9
Sand source is compatible with native beach sand.
Dune slopes designed to closely mimic the natural beach.
Dune to be vegetated with native plants for dune stabilization and to promote wildlife usage (shelter, food, slope change signaling turtles to nest, etc.).
Standard monitoring and protective measures will be employed as required by permits.

Limited parking and access for Saturdays and Sundays
The County is working with the GTMNERR to allow free parking to the public

Temporary construction easements may be executed up until 2 weeks prior to the arrival sand placement operations
The Sheriff’s Office and multiple County Departments have been in consultation to lessen the impacts of the project.
