FINANCIAL TECHNOLOGY &CYBERSECURITY
FinTech and Cyber Security are increasingly vital as
we advance technologically in our world, whether
business or national security. Both Georgia and
Hungary are leaders in their respective regions in
this industry sector.
MEDICAL DEVICES &HEALTH IT
Hungary and Georgia are known to be innovators in
medical devices and health information technology
advancements. Hungary has the most recipients of
Nobel Prizes per capita in Health Sciences, and
Georgia institutions are internationally recognized as
producing cutting edge technology in this field.

GEORGIA HUNGARY
FINANCIAL TECHNOLOGY & CYBERSECURITY
70% of U.S. financial transactions pass through
Georgia. 115 information security companies in
Georgia, which generate 25 percent of the worldwide
security revenue market. Six of the 10 largest US
payment processing firms are Georgia-based, and
the top 50 Georgia-based FinTech companies
generate annual revenue of more than $72 billion.
Those FinTech companies have attracted more than
$208 million in investments, and 1570 jobs have
been created in Georgia’s FinTech sector since
2013.
Growing numbers of Hungarian financial institutions
are improving customer service by cooperating with
and learning from FinTechs as they start to
understand how FinTech can assist in overcoming
legacy technological and customer communication
issues. "The financial services industry has now
fully embraced FinTech to help drive change and
innovation. Activity ranges from partnering with
FinTechs startups, financing in-house incubators,
and deploying new solutions, to testing use cases in
areas like blockchain . . . " says Antal Kerekes, PwC
Hungary’s Technology Advisory Partner in a new
PwC report “Redrawing the lines: FinTech’s growing
influence on Financial Services.” New entrants find
a favorable competitive environment in FinTech.
Georgia serves as one of the nation’s elite
cybersecurity hubs, ranking 3rd in the nation for
information security. Cybersecurity generates more
than $4.7 billion in annual revenue, and over 115
cybersecurity firms call Georgia home. The Georgia
Cyber Innovation and Training Center, set to open in
2018, will be a $50 million state-owned facility
designed to promote modernization in cybersecurity
technology for private and public industries. Fort
Gordon, Georgia is home to Army Cyber Command,
the central post for all of the Army’s cybersecurity
operations. Georgia Tech has 11 labs and centers
dedicated to cybersecurity, with nearly 500
scientists, faculty and students involved in
cybersecurity research.
Hungary’s businesses recognize the challenges of
managing information and cybersecurity risks: with
the growth of information and communication
technology and relevant consumer electronics, there
is an increasing need to provide a safe cyber space
in everyday life. Recognizing these changes,
cybersecurity has become a key concern in
Hungary, and the country is fortunate to be in a
position to draw on its in-depth technical and IT-
related risk experts. Hungary also sees
cybersecurity as a national defense threat. With
continuously evolving cybersecurity threats, growing
numbers of Hungarian organizations, events and
regulatory requirements highlight the necessity for a
strong and secure cyber space, both in the private
and the public sectors.

MEDICAL DEVICES & HEALTH INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY
Georgia has a wealth of resources to design,
prototype, manufacture and test new medical device
products. 50% of Georgia’s life science companies
are medical devices and diagnostics, and 27% of the
state’s life science workforce are engaged in medical
devices and diagnostics.
Medical technology is one of Hungary’s most
traditional economic sectors. Medtech has seen
almost 100 years of widely acknowledged
innovation, highly specialized technical development
and notable exports to the global market. Hungarian
companies have achieved international recognition
with cutting edge products and technologies. A
growing number of domestic SMEs as well as
several international medtech producers take
advantage of Hungary’s favorable environment and
productive workforce. Today, 150 companies are
engaged in medical manufacturing in Hungary.
Georgia leads the US with more than 225 Health IT
companies, and Health IT accounts for
approximately 30,000 jobs in Georgia. Health IT
depends on a robust IT industry, and Metro Atlanta
ranks in the top five US markets for total bandwidth
and fiber access and two of the country’s largest
fiber routes – North/South and East/West – cross in
metro Atlanta.
As with Georgia, Hungary’s growing Health IT sector
depends on a robust IT industry. Hungary’s IT
sector, with a net turnover of about EUR 10 billion, is
one of the sectors creating the highest added value
in Hungary. The sector is in continuous and
dynamic evolution, as evidenced by the high number
of HIT companies that have sprung up in recent
years and the proportion of fast-growing software
and services exports. Innovative start-ups provide
an increasingly significant proportion of the HIT
industry, and Hungary pays particular attention to
fostering their global market successes, whether by
market introduction, product development, mentoring
or expanding their international connections.
