In the 2013/14 season, our varsity teams won 13 team and individual gold medals in provincial competitions. Nationally, they achieved eight medals, led by the men’s soccer team repeating their gold-medal performance of last year. Individually, they once again dominated by having four athletes selected as Ontario Colleges Athletic Association (OCAA) Players of the Year. Two of these four were further honoured as National Players of the Year by the Canadian Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA).

This program provides students with the English language proficiency needed to continue their academic education at the diploma, degree and post-graduate levels. It is also ideal for those who need excellent communication skills for specific career goals.

OUR PROGRAM COVERS ALL THE SKILLS NEEDED FOR ACADEMIC SUCCESS: Academic Writing and Grammar Reading and Vocabulary Development Speaking and Pronunciation Listening and Note-taking Presentation Skills Library & Internet Research Skills

At Humber, we make learning English both practical and interesting. As well as teaching you the rules of grammar, we show you how and why you will use them. Then we practice — in class, in the computer labs, with native speakers, and at social events. This makes learning dynamic and enjoyable.

The EAP program is offered at eight levels of study from high beginner to advanced. The core curriculum of 18 hours per week is complemented by an additional 4 hours in a computerized language-learning lab for a total of 22 hours of classroom instruction per week. Level 8 of the program includes a general education course which is recognized as a credit course towards many of Humber’s diploma programs.

CONDITIONAL ADMISSION TO HUMBER PROGRAMS THROUGH EAPCompletion of EAP Level 8 meets the language proficiency requirements for admission to most Humber programs. For students completing Level 8 with no failed courses and with the appropriate grades (see EAP Pathways), no further IELTS or TOEFL testing is required.

Transfer options, a wide range of credentials and specialized programs help you map your journey to success. Take a foundation program, then move to a diploma. Complete a diploma, then apply for advanced standing to a degree. The path is yours to choose.

FOUNDATION PROGRAMS (2–3 SEMESTERS)Our foundation certificates allow you to gain and upgrade the skills you need to pursue further studies or get on track to launch your career. These programs will help you build a portfolio, develop and hone your skills or take the next step in your career.

CERTIFICATES (2–3 SEMESTERS)One-year and short-term certificates allow you to establish a foundation of knowledge in a given field or upgrade your skills in your current career.

GRADUATE CERTIFICATES (2–3 SEMESTERS)Intended for students who already have a bachelor’s degree, graduate certificates allow you to gain specialized knowledge and job experience in your field of interest.

DIPLOMAS (4–6 SEMESTERS)Our career-focused diplomas are designed to give you specialized knowledge enabling you to be work-ready when you graduate.

TRANSFER OPTIONSHumber offers many ways to transfer between credentials and institutions. You can start in a certificate program then progress to a diploma. From there, earn a diploma and transfer your credits towards a degree. For example, students who complete Humber’s three-year Business Administration advanced diploma program can transfer into most of our Bachelor of Commerce degrees for the final two years of study. Students completing a comparable Business Administration advanced diploma at another Ontario college may be qualified for entry into year three of most of Humber’s Bachelor of Commerce degrees.

NORTH CAMPUSHumber’s largest campus, located on the banks of the Humber River at Finch Avenue and Highway 27, is just a public transit ride away from Toronto’s bustling downtown. home to Humber’s newest building – the gleaming, airy Lakeshore Commons, a hub for student activity and many of our programs. The Lakeshore Campus also incorporates Humber’s theatre programs, with a fully equipped black box theatre, and the Fashion Institute, a dedicated facility that houses Humber’s fashion programs. From a simulated crime scene studio in our Centre for Justice Studies to one of the best recording facilities in the country, the Lakeshore Campus is home to an incredible variety of opportunities to put your learning into practice.

CANADIAN CENTRE OF CULINARY ARTS & SCIENCEHumber is home to Culinary Team Ontario, Canada’s Master Chef examination facilities, the Ontario Wine Education Centre, and the Ontario Cook Apprentice Training Centre. As a student, you’ll learn in teaching kitchens that feature induction, gas and electric ranges, individual ovens, and energy-efficient refrigeration and ventilation. Your skills will be on display in The Humber Room, our full-service restaurant staffed by students in our culinary and hospitality programs.

CENTRE FOR HEALTH & WELLNESSAll students have free access to our athletic and fitness facilities, which double as classrooms for many of our students. Learning spaces include three varsity gyms, a cardio and weight training centre, a community swimming pool, and high-performance labs for Fitness and Health Promotion students.

Massage Therapy students learn in client-ready teaching labs, and The Humber Spa is a full-service classroom and retail boutique open to the public year-round.

CENTRE FOR TRADES & TECHNOLOGYBuild your career in dedicated woodworking, cabinetmaking and welding shops. Program-specific labs and two full-sized framed townhomes help you develop your skills in construction, plumbing, home renovation, electronics, motors, controls and instrumentation.

DESIGN CENTREAs a Humber design student you’ll show off your work in the open concept space featuring the latest digital imaging and design technologies. With seven open studios, a 24/7 computer lab, resource room, digital camera photo station and industrial design workshop, the Design Centre is similar to what is found in the most forward-thinking design and architectural firms.

DIGITAL BROADCAST CENTREYou’ll create and report the news of the day for Humber TV, Radio Humber 96.9 FM and thedailyplanet.com, Humber’s online news source, as you hone your interactive storytelling techniques.

HIGH-DEFINITION TELEVISION MOBILE PRODUCTION UNITAs a Broadcast Television/Videography student, you’ll learn on-the-go in SCORPIO, the most technically advanced mobile high-definition (HD) unit at any college in Ontario. You’ll learn all aspects of remote broadcasting by covering live sporting and cultural events across Ontario.

HEALTH SCIENCES CLINICAL SIMULATION LABPractice your skills and perfect your bedside manner in a 36-bed lab that simulates hospital in-patient rooms and critical-care settings. Programmable simulation mannequins who breathe and have heartbeats help you learn appropriate responses to adult, pediatric and infant clinical situations.

THE INTERNATIONAL DEVELOPMENT INSTITUTEAs an International Development student, you’ll have access to various development projects, applied research opportunities, and international internships. You’ll learn from programming that draws on more than 25 years of international development work in countries such as India, Malaysia, the Philippines, South Africa, Tanzania, Thailand, and Ukraine.

HIGHLIGHTS – HUMBER LAKESHORE CAMPUS

THE AD CENTREYou’ll work on real campaigns for real clients in the Ad Centre, a student-run advertising agency. You’ll get superior experiential learning through client interactions and solving both creative and design challenges.

MEDIA STUDIOSYou’ll be in the spotlight and in good company with other aspiring actors, performers, comedians, producers, writers and technicians. A black box theatre, film and television studios, scene shop, comedy cabaret and stage combat lab help you prepare for careers on or behind the stage and screen.

CENTRE FOR JUSTICE LEADERSHIPYou’ll work the clues to solve crimes using professional equipment in a crime-scene simulation studio, forensic lab, and interview rooms. Professors, including former professional detectives, will teach you to collect and protect crime-scene materials and to process evidence. The centre is used for training by Toronto Police Service.

CRIMINAL JUSTICE SIMLABHumber’s criminal justice programs are now home to Canada’s first full 180-degree interfacing simulator, which you will use to practice police pursuit driving and conflict resolution. A variety of scenarios gives you the opportunity to develop your engagement and reaction skills in a safe learning environment, providing instant feedback and opportunities for reflection.

FASHION INSTITUTEYour passion for fashion begins at the Humber Fashion Institute, a facility dedicated to the Fashion Management degree program – one of the few degree programs in Canada that teaches both fashion and business fundamentals.

LAKESHORE COMMONSYou’ll feel at home in the centrepiece of the Humber Lakeshore Campus. This building was built to Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) silver standards and is home to the Centre for Digital & Media Communications, as well as lots of space to study and hang out in the art gallery, cafeteria, computer labs and open-concept seating areas.

HUMBER RECORDING STUDIOYour Humber music experience will hit the perfect note with time in the Humber Recording Studio, equipped with world-class technology including Duality audio console by Solid State Logic (SSL). Expert recording engineers and professors teach and oversee your music recordings, in 30 audio workstations, concert hall, 40 e-classrooms and rehearsal studios.

PLAY THERAPY LABRepresenting an industry-standard safe environment, with everything from doll houses to art centres, the Play Therapy Lab allows our Child and Youth Worker students to build their skills in analysis and learn to determine appropriate solutions to complex situations.
