HUMANITARIAN OF THE YEAR HONORING JACK & SUZI HANNA MARCH 2, 2020 HYATT REGENCY DOWNTOWN COLUMBUS 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. HISTORY The Humanitarian of the Year award, presented annually by the American Red Cross of Central Ohio since 1997, honors a local individual who has great humanitarian concern for our community and who has made our community a better place to live and work. Based on the Fundamental Principles of the World Red Cross Movement—humanity, impartiality, neutrality, independence, volunteer service, unity and universality—the award finds focus in the first of these principles—Humanity. While recognizing these good neighbors for their humanitarian work, the event also serves as an important source of revenue for our local Red Cross Chapter. The funds generated by the luncheon support the lifesaving services and programs of the Red Cross in Franklin, Fayette, Madison and Pickaway Counties. With an average of attendance of more than 500 guests, the Humanitarian of the Year Luncheon has also allowed our Red Cross a chance to tell our story to community leaders and donors and serves as an important source of revenue for our local Red Cross Chapter. After using a traditional “speaker” approach in the first event with Elizabeth Dole, we have moved to crisply produced programs which marry inspiration, information and entertainment, and are supported by expert consultants and tight internal staffing. Our Red Cross chapter leverages this event as an opportunity to address current, pertinent issues while underscoring the importance of our mission: to help people prevent, prepare for and respond to emergencies before disasters strike. Your affiliation with this respected event will help the American Red Cross of Central Ohio project its message to the community and, ultimately, help save lives in central Ohio.

HISTORYThe Humanitarian of the Year award, presented annually by the American Red Cross of Central Ohio since 1997, honors a local individual who has great humanitarian concern for our community and who has made our community a better place to live and work.

HUMANITAR IAN OF THE YEARHONORING JACK & SUZI HANNA

EVENT OVERVIEWThe Humanitarian of the Year luncheon accomplishes three primary goals. Firstly, it publicly recognizes our honoree for his/her accomplishments. Secondly, it educates local business and community leaders in the audience about the American Red Cross and its work in Central Ohio. Lastly, the event serves as a source of revenue, grossing more than $3.5 million since its inception in 1997. The funds generated by the luncheon support the life-saving services and programs of the Red Cross in our community. The event is designed in segments with each segment developed to meet specific objectives:

The American Red Cross takes great pride in coordinating, designing and hosting a top-notch event. We make every attempt to make sure the details are in accordance with the wishes of our honoree(s), Board of Directors, Presenting Sponsors and Honorary Chair.

HUMANITAR IAN OF THE YEARHONORING JACK & SUZI HANNA

Jack and Suzi Hanna never anticipated the adventures ahead after meeting at Muskingum College and marrying in 1968. Ten years later when Jack became the director of the Columbus Zoo, the Hannas were perfectly positioned to lead the Zoo and the entire zoological world into the 21st century.

Over their last 40+ years in Columbus, Jack and Suzi have brought wildlife and conservation education to audiences around the world through Jack’s countless TV appearances, speeches, and their three award-winning TV series: Jack Hanna’s Animal Adventures, Into the Wild and Wild Countdown. Having the privilege of traveling to Africa more than forty times, the country that has truly captured their heart is Rwanda. They are longtime supporters of Rwandan wildlife and humanitarian organizations, including Partners In Conservation and Gorilla Doctors.

The Hannas love to hike and treasure time with friends and family. They have three daughters, six grandchildren, and a new golden retriever puppy.
