keynote speaker Alex Badenoch
Group Executive, Transformation and People, Telstra
In August 2016, Alexandra Badenoch re-joined Telstra to take up the role of
Group Executive Human Resources where she was responsible for providing
strategic advice and support to the Human Resources arm of the business. In
2018 Alex’s role expanded to include leading the delivery office of Telstra’s
company-wide T22 transformation strategy, an ambitious program to lead the
Australian market by simplifying its operations and product set, improving
customer experience and reducing its cost base. This is in addition to her
responsibility for simplifying the business structure and transforming how Telstra
works to become more customer focussed, agile and collaborative.
Prior to this, she was Director of Human Resources, Corporate Affairs and
Customer at Asciano, Australia’s largest rail and ports operator, and brings a
wealth of experience dealing with a highly diversified and international workforce.
Before joining Asciano, Alex worked at Telstra for more than five years as
Executive Director Organisational Development & Talent and Executive Director
HR for Telstra’s Consumer business, including BigPond and Telstra Country
Wide.
Known for her change management skills and ability to deliver strong
commercial outcomes, Alex has designed and implemented key initiatives to
drive successful change across multiple organisations, including Novell Inc. and
Coles Myer.

Group ANZ
Angela joined Randstad in 2006 and as Executive General Manager of
Randstad’s Consulting Group, leads a diverse team of senior professionals
including Randstad Sourceright ANZ, HR Consulting and the Talent Solutions
team in Australia. The team comprises subject matter experts and thought
leaders that span across employer branding, talent acquisition & management
strategies to managed service provider (MSP) solutions and recruitment process
outsourcing (RPO) solutions and beyond.
The Randstad Consulting Group is a global talent solutions leader, driving talent
acquisition and human capital management strategies for our clients. Angela
and her team help organisations discover and develop their "human intelligence
advantage" by quantifying the impact of talent strategies; she continuously taps
into global best practice across the globe merging 'tech and touch' solutions for
our clients.
Being at the forefront in terms of solution design, innovation, the future of work
trends, employment dynamics and changing employment landscape; Angela is
an active contributor and thought leader in this space and is dedicated to sharing
insights from our research and our programs across the public and commercial
sectors. Angela also conducts regular senior leadership boardroom meetings
and panel discussions to our key clients. Examples of the topics explored are
gender diversity, employer branding, workforce barometer updates, and
legislative changes to name a few.
Angela has a Bachelor Social Sciences Degree with a double Major in Industrial
Relations and Strategic Human Resource Management from the University of
New South Wales.

panelist Scott Johnston
Acting NSW Public Service Commissioner, NSW Public
Service Commission
Scott joined the PSC in June 2014 after a long career in official statistics for both
the Australian Bureau of Statistics and the Office for National Statistics (UK),
where his focus was primarily economic statistics including prices and national
accounts. Scott has a Bachelor of Commerce degree and post graduate
qualifications in statistics and finance and investment. He also holds an
Executive Masters in Public Administration from the Australia and New Zealand
School of Government (ANZSOG) and the University of Sydney.
Scott has been acting in the role of NSW Public Service Commissioner since
October 2019. Prior to this he was Assistant Commissioner of the Performance
and Analytics Division. This Division provides workforce analytical support and
leadership to the PSC and the Sector, managing the various data assets that
are contained within the PSC. The Division also compiles the annual Workforce
Profile, sector wide reports including the State of the NSW Public Sector Report,
coordinates the People Matter Employee Survey and the annual Premier’s
Awards.
The Public Service Commissioner is an independent office holder.

Head of Launch Pad Innovation Program, Western
Sydney University
Don Wright is the co-founder and Head of the Launch Pad Innovation program
at Western Sydney University which delivers support to Tech startup and high
growth SME businesses resulting in the creation of 150 new knowledge jobs
and the addition of over $100m value added to the regional Western Sydney
economy since 2016.
Don is actively working to grow entrepreneurial thinking across the region
through the development of a large-scale entrepreneurship training and
development program at WSU with an international focus that will connect
Western Sydney to innovation ecosystems in Asia, Europe and the US. With
original qualifications in Mechanical Engineering and an MBA in International
Business, Don is passionate about technology businesses and is driving a
strategy for the creation of tech specialisations in various key centres across
Western Sydney including an artificial intelligence and machine learning hub in
Parramatta.
Don has worked in a range of small and large engineering based firms and also
operated his own consultancy working globally in Aerospace and Defence with
industry and government to develop opportunities for Australian industry
participation in major global programs such as the 787 Dreamliner and Joint
Strike Fighter. Don is now working extensively to support WSU’s role in the
Western City and Aerotroplolis strategy including planning for the Multiversity
and WSU’s support for Industry 4.0 capability development in the local
manufacturing sector.

Juliet has spent over twenty years advising organisations on their most complex
workforce challenges. Recently she has focused on the changing nature of work
as a result of technology, demography and globalisation and how we need to

Research and policy
CEDA’s only agenda is to pursue good public policy to progress Australia’s

3000 publications, research reports and articles highlighting emerging issues and
directions in a diverse range of policy areas. Research in 2019 will focus on
Australia’s long-term budget position, the effects of temporary migration, a survey
of Australian businesses on their approach to economic development, and new
approaches to addressing entrenched disadvantage.
