Human Rights Day is celebrated on December the 10th because it was on this very same day that the Universal Declaration of Human Rights was signed in 1948. We now celebrate not this document, but the spirit of humanity, freedom, and total equality among all human beings in a world with no discrimination. The very concept of human rights refers to the sense of hu-man dignity, before anything else, be it legal or political or otherwise Human rights are the natural rights that all human beings have, regardless of our nationality, place of residence, sex, racial or ethnic origin, religion, language or any other status. We are all entitled to our rights without discrimination.

These rights are all interrelated, interdependent and indivisible.

Human rights belong equally to each of us and bind us together as a global community. As a global com-munity we all share a day in common, and that is the Human Rights Day . This 10 December we will remem-ber the creation of Universal Declaration of Human Rights 63 years ago.

HuMan rigHts Party

From its origins in ancient times, the celebration of fest-ivals was linked to the momentous events of everyday life. Thus, different cultural groups took advantage of the festival as a stage that allowed performances of the most representative local or regional culture; to promote the definition of standards of identity expressed in the festive scene. The festival appears in modern times as a valuable party, which promotes cross-cultural contacts and exchanges, that the consumer society has managed to use, often to the detriment of the identity that they must consolidate and manifest. It would be great to share such actvities and shows back in your NMOs.

The IFMSA calendar 2013 is an initiative of ours to dis-tribute to all of our members. Each month we will have a picture of the most important events for that month characterised in the calendar of the committee for your NMO. So why not make your own SCORP Calendar for the year?

“Nearly everyone knows that a heart symbolizes love and a dove means peace - but what about human rights? There are 7 billion people living on this planet, all of them are carriers of human rights – and yet we have no way of transcending all borders to commu-nicate this universal bond. The initiative “A Logo for Human Rights” has now filled this gap! As a universal symbol, the Human Rights Logo can help to draw atten-tion to human rights violations and give a voice to those fighting for their rights. This logo is easily recognizable and helps people to identify with human rights. The logo carries its message across all language borders, fast and without words – given today’s information-overload on TV and through the internet, this is more important than ever.”

tHe Message

Each of us will use mass media communication to Spreads the message to all NMOS so that all of IFMSA can participate in this activity. Our vision is that this event will be greater than SCORP and never forgotten. There will be topics around Human Rights that will be distributed online. These will be decided in a meeting, also online. Each country will have 1 minute and every 15 days post messages which will give a motivational and educational environment. All this until December 10.

Video

We will make a call to all NMOs that wish to particip-ate in the inaugural Human Rights Day video. Photos for the video will be accepted until November 30, to allow the group to work on it for 10 days. Photos can be: the symbol of the committee, peace symbols, draw-ings made by children, messages, and about different cultures of their countries, etc. It can also be a message of “Stand For Human Rights” in your language.
