Human impacts on marine ecosystems
Three main problems
1. OVERPOPULATION
2. Fisheries
• Humans living near the coast have probably always used the ocean as a source of food
• With advances in fishing equipment, larger ships and new tracking technologies, many fish stocks around the world have reduced significantly.
For example, some fishing techniques such as dredging and trawling can cause widespread damage to marine habitats and
organisms living on the sea floor.
These techniques also often capture non-target species (known as bycatch) that are then discarded.
3. POLLUTIONBy accident
Pollution from human activities has major impact on the world’s marine ecosystems. Plastic refuse is one of the most
pervasive types of pollution.
More than 80 million tons of plastics are estimated to be produced globally each year. These plastics are durable, requiring about 500 years to decompose in the ocean.
How can we solve the problem?
1. Overpopulation
2. Overfishing:
對學生來說我們怎麼可以讓環境” Pollution FREE”:
We just have one world and its time to take care of it.
