Large Intestines!!
• Colon and Large Intestines are esentially the same thing
• Enters as liquid blob
• Water is absorbed into bloodstream, leaving a more solid feces.

Feces
• Feces is composed of water, undigested food, mucus, dead cells, and bacteria.
• Feces are eliminated through the anus.

• Importance of LI…– Water and minerals pass back into
bloodstream.
• Seems kind of …

I mean what could go wrong?
Diarrhea!!!!
• Food moves through LI too fast.
• Water is not absorbed into the bloodstream.
• Potential DANGER …. Dehydration (loss of water)

Constipation
• Food moves to SLOWLY through LI.
• Feces become larger, harder, drier.
• How to fix…– Laxative – causes peristalsis contractions to
increase!
• How to avoid…– High FIBER diet

• Rectum – last stop in the LI. – Food gathers together– Powerful contractions and feces are released.
• And down it goes in a swirling wonder!
