Canadian Constitution

recognizes these three groups as

Aboriginal peoples, also known

as Indigenous Peoples.

Although these groups share

many similarities, they each have

their own distinct heritage,

language, cultural practices and

spiritual beliefs.

On June 21 National Aboriginal

Day is celebrating 20 years of

strong vibrant cultures and

traditions. This is a day for all

Monica Johnny will be truly

missed. She has worked as a

Community Health

Representative, Community

Health Coordinator,

Elder’s Coordinator, Fleet

Manager, Training

Coordinator, Cultural Advisor

and in several other positions

within our

communities. Monica helped

facilitate various workshops

and events including Girl

Power, Food Skills For

Families, Coming of Age

workshops, Language

workshops, 24/7 Boot Camp,

Archery Program, Sport

Ball, Sports Camps, Self

Defense Program and

many more. She also helped

set up various training

opportunities such as Anti

Bullying , First Aid, Food Safe,

Sexual Violence workshops

and more over the

years. She has also shared a

tremendous wealth of

Cultural teachings over the

years and also provided day

to day support for not only

Halalt but all of our member

nations over the years. She

dedicated over 13 years of

service to our Society and we

are grateful for her

commitment and dedication

to HHS. This dedication has

enriched our Society and we

will miss all the tremendous

skills and teachings that

Monica has .At the same

time we are truly grateful to

have her share those gifts with

us during her time with us. You

will truly be missed Monica and

we wish you the best in your

future endeavors.

We want to say a special Thank you to 2 of our staff members who

have left our organization for other opportunities

Ashley Wilson worked with HHS for close to 3 years as our Youth Worker, Receptionist, Communications and assisted in many other areas. Ashley is a true role model and we will miss her contributions to the team and communities. Good luck Ashley

Michel comes to HHS with over

15 years of Human Resource

experience, including all levels of

human resources from

administration to senior

management. She has

specialized in compensation,

benefits renewal and market

analysis and administration,

disability management,

budgeting, strategic planning

and organizational

development. She also has

personal interest and

accomplishments in coaching

and mentoring; progressive

discipline; policy and

procedures; employee rewards,

wellness and recognition;

project management; health and

safety programs.. Michel is a

member in good standing with

the Human resources

management association.

Michel has a Bachelor of

Commerce Degree, Royal Roads

University; Certified Return to

Work Coordinator (RTWC);

national institute for Disability

Management and Research

(NIDMAR); Finance and

Accounting, North Island

College. She is currently pursu-

ing a Master’s Degree in the

Value-Based Leadership Program

at Royal Roads University and

is also pursuing CHRP

Designation through the Human

Resources Management

Association.

We are excited to have Michel

join our team three days per

week. Although she will be

working primarily out of the

Halalt/Lyackson offices, she will

be spending some time in the

Malahat office as well.

Brian really enjoys with our providing a service to our community members and ensuring that they arrive to their destination safely

Brian is our Medical Trans-

portation program driver. He has

being driving for patient travel

past few years, he is a familiar

face at HHS. He will be driving

for our Medical transportation

Program which will start June

08,2016 Monday to Friday

8:45am to 4:30pm. This is a new

initiative by H’ulh-etun Health

Society and is a pilot program

until March 31,2017

Band Member. She has being

happily married for 11 years,

mother of 3 girls and 2 boys.

She is working in the

community garden and does

Custodian duties in both Halalt

and Malahat Health Units. She

enjoys hiking, reading and

spending time with her

family. Grandparents are
