The girls cheered at eight games this season.They have been practicing four nights a weekin the month of August and three times a weekfrom September until now. They have competedin three competitions. Season Premiere we tiedfor first but took second on the tiebreaker. DerryHarvest competition we took first place, andthe State Comp we placed first, taking the StateChampionship title. We will be competing thisweek against nine other teams, and ,if we placefirst, second or third, we will head to Nationals inOrlando on Dec. 13.

Earn 2nd with NH Travel and Tourism Videoby Doug Robinson

Students from Mr. Perkins fourth grade class at HillsGarrison School earned second-place honors with theirvideo that promoted NH tourism

For the past three years, the Department of NH Traveland Tourism has hosted the competition, Class Act whichchallenges fourth grade students across the state of NH tocreate a video for the purpose of answering the question,Why should people come to NH and what makes itspecial?

Last year, all fourth grade classes of Hills Garrisonentered the competition, and Mr. Perkins fourth grade class

won second place.The New Hampshire Department of Travel and Tourism

challenged the children to work together with your classand produce a 60-second video showing off all of thethings you love and have learned about New Hampshire.Act, sing, make a commercial, do an interview orreenactment ..., or come up with a brand new idea of yourown! Your video should show visitors to our beautiful statehow much fun it is here and help them learn about all thethings they can do when they get here.

The goal of the experience was to provide aneducational, team, team build project for fourth grade

students, in which they can enjoy thecreative challenge of condensing theirmessage into a 60-second time framestated the NH Department of Travel andTourism.

Across the state of New Hampshire, 27videos were created by NH fourth gradestudents. Once submitted, a panel ofseven judges reviewed the submissions.The important criteria for which they

won centered upon creativity, editing,originality, enthusiasm, innovation,sound, video quality, showcasing of NH,experiences from the different regions ofNH, overall product, and presentation.

The overall goal for the project was tocreate a 60-second video to convincesomeone who has never been her (to NH),to come to NH.

As winners of second place for 2014,

the fourth grade students earned theopportunity to meet and greet the ValleySnow Dogz.

Rosie was her name and she wonthe hearts of all the fourth graders at HillsGarrison. At 9 years old, the AlaskanHusky belonged to a family of 23 fellowdogs who works for Valley Snow Dogz.

Owner Lidia Dale-Medsaros of ValleySnow Dogz spoke of her passion and

her love of dog sledding during thepresentation of her dog sled business tothe fourth grade students.

Students learned not only about thehealth and training habits of sled dogs,the students also learned about the care,courage, obedience, and as well as thetypes of races, and the commitmentrequired to compete nationally with a sleddog team.

Laurel Place Resident Celebrates Century Milestone

by AJ DickinsonFarmer-turned-welder Robert Gould has long been

known for his extensive collection of railroad postcardsthat numbers in the thousands. Well, now he will beassociated with another big number: 100, his age as ofNov. 17.

Two days earlier, on Saturday, Nov. 15, the staffmembers from Laurel Place Assisted Living, located

off of Lowell Road, held a very special birthdaygathering for the longtime postcard collector.

Many people attended the wonderfulcentury celebration, which included notonly family and friends but also NashuaMayor Donnalee Lozeau who came tocongratulate Bob on this amazing feat oflongevity.

Bob, who was born on Nov. 17, 1914,

was raised on a small farm in Hollis, NewHampshire. It wasnt until he was a teenagerthat he got a taste of the city life and aspiredto be a welder. After going to welding school,he landed a job in his newfound trade in

Pennsylvania . Amazingly, this once small-town farmerturned city welder ended his career with a salary office

job that he proudly worked until his retirement in 1979.Bob, who was considered to have a quiet, peaceful

life, is renowned for his enormous collection ofrailroad station postcards, of which he has more than16,000 in all, organized alphabetically in bindersupon binders. Some say he has the largestcollection in New Hampshire.

The party, which started at 2 p.m., was ablast for all who attended and consisted ofcomplementary sandwiches, chips, drinks,cake and, of course, traditional railroad-based music performed by Doug Rickardof Manchester who performed many songsfrom Bobs younger days. When Bob

was wheeled out into the recreationarea where all of his family, guests, andacquaintances awaited him, he wasshort of words and simply stated, Imamazed. I dont know what to say!Peggy Gilmour of District 12, New Hampshire State Senate, reads

Schools Forestry and Veterinary Sciencestudents competed in the 87th NationalFFA Convention held in Louisville,Kentucky. Fourteen Alvirne High Schoolstudents competed in four nationalcareer development events. According to Mike Gagnon, Forestryand Natural Resources teacher, Ourforestry team really excelled, placingfifth in the Nation out of 41 teamscompeting. This is a new state recordfor NH. Kyle Trott, of the forestry teamplaced fourth individually out of 164

students and was really only beaten byFlorida, who won the event and had theTop 3 individual scorers. This is also a

new state record. Kyle earned a $1,000scholarship.

The Veterinary Science team wasawarded a silver emblem. Teammembers include Kyah Hardy, MirandaMoralez, Meghan Perkins and OliviaWill. Kyah Hardy earned goldindividually.

The Environmental/Natural Resourcesteam earned a silver emblem. Teammembers include Jason Bell, MeaganMcKinley, Noah Jarvis and ChrisMachado.

On Saturdaymorning, Nov. 14, theHudson Fire and Policedepartments respondedto the area of KimballHill Road for a reportof a hunter stuck ina swamp. The exact

location was not knowndue to the callersunfamiliarity with thearea. Hudson Fire,Pelham Fire and policeunits first searched aswamp in the area of90 Kimball Hill Roadbut found nothing. TheState Police Air Wingwas also called in toassist with the search.

The Emergency 911Center in Concordtracked the cell phonecall giving crews a latitude and longitude that pinpointed the search to an area off of Speare Road.The New Hampshire State Police had an aircraftin the area and did a fly over in which they wereable to spot the hunter. The caller had made hisway out of the woods to where his vehicle was

parked. He led rescue personnel back into thewoods on foot to where the hunter was stuck.Firefighters and police officers entered the woodsand located the hunter about a mile into thewoods in the muddy swamp.

The hunter was identified as MichaelDeloria, 27, of Nashua. Deloria had walkedapproximately half a mile into the woods into anarea that was deep mud and become stuck up to his waist.Firefighters Brian Clarenbach and Craig Benner donnedwater rescue suits and pulled the hunter from the mudusing ropes. Deloria had been stuck for approximatelytwo hours before he was pulled from the mud. The rescuetook around one hour.

The Hudson Fire Department utilized their PolarisRanger OHRV to transport Deloria out of the woods oncehe was freed from the mud. The hunters wet clothing wasremoved and he was covered with warming blankets andtransported out of the woods to a waiting ambulance. Hewas treated on scene by emergency personnel for minor

hypothermia but refused transport to the hospital. Thecold temperatures played a part in the urgency for gettingDeloria out of the cold wet mud.

The Hudson Police and Fire departments recommendthat anyone going into the woods should dressappropriately for the activity they are engaging in, carry acell phone that is fully charged, and know the area theyare in.

An off-duty Hudson Fire lieutenant and a neighborriding off road vehicles assisted with the rescue.

At the scene were 14 firefighters, officers, and chiefofficers staffing one engine, one ambulance, a forestryunit, and an off-road vehicle along with a Pelham engine.

Verification by the team that the Hudson Police Departmentmeets the commissions state-of-the-art standards is part of avoluntary process to gain re-accreditation after having receivedthe initial National Accreditation in March 2003, and having beensubsequently re-accredited in March 2006 and 2009 and Accreditedwith Excellence in March 2012.

The assessors will review written materials, interview individuals,and visit offices and other places where compliance can bewitnessed. The assessors are Team Leader-Chief William Benson,Wheeling, Illinois Police Department and Lieutenant (Ret.) GeoffreyIce of the Connecticut State Police.

Once the commissions assessors complete their review of theHudson Police Department, they report back to the full commission,which will then decide if the agency is to be granted re-accreditationstatus.

As part of the on-site assessment, agency employees and membersof the community are invited to offer comments at a publicinformation session on Monday, Dec. 8 at 5 p.m. The session willbe completed in the Hudson Police Department Community Roomat 1 Constitution Drive in Hudson.

On Friday, Nov. 14, the Presentation of Mary Academy Parents Groupheld its second annual Vendors Night fundraiser at the school. Thisyears Vendors Night was not only more than twice the size of lastyears, totaling36 differentvendors, but wasalso open to thepublic, greatlyincreasing itsattendance.

DanielleToupin, a PMAmom whooffered hernetworking skillsto the PMAParents Group,

organized the event as a way to become moreinvolved with her daughters school. The two-hourevent, which began at 6:30 p.m., offered everythingfrom home loans to handmade scarves. There wasa little something for everyone to enjoy.

The money raised at the event will go toward anew gymnasium and media center for PMA. Whenasked about the success of the event, Danielle replied, I was verynervous and excited to do this, but I can tell you that, because of theturnout and the parent interaction, the support from the school, theparent group and the vendors, I will definitely chair this every year.

moved into the Morey Buildingin 1923 and remainedthere until the building wasremodeled. This building,owned by Henry Morey, waslocated on Ferry Street justabove the intersection withWebster Street. In addition to

the post office, this building wasthe location of the 20th CenturyStore, a barbershop, a shoerepair shop, and a second-handstore. In 1948, Henrys son,Ernest, remodeled the building.While the post office was in thislocation, Anna Clyde servedas postmaster until 1936 atwhich time Paul Richard wasappointed and Mrs. Clydeserved as his assistant. Thisphoto was taken in 1946 and isfrom the collection at the Hudson Historical Society.

This is Hoppy. Hoppy injuredhis foot early last spring. Eventuallythe foot came off. He travels with his

four friends and frequently rests in aresidents back yard. Often folks wait,as the other turkeys wait to see that hecrosses the road safely. One turkey

always stays close,so he is protectedat all times. It isa blessing and aprivilege to havebeen given this flockof turkey to watchand learn from.

surrounded by family, friends, school administrators, and fellowathletes, Hannah Neild signed her letter of intent to attendMerrimack College next fall.

During her educational and athletic careerat CHS, Hannah has been called a specialstudent by educators and students alike.

When I first met Hannah, I knew she wasa special person, commented CHS PrincipalLaurie Rothhaus. She is a worker-bee and

takes nothing for granted. Whether on theathletic field or in the classroom, Hannah is aquiet leader. She is a doer, and she can multi-task. Students look up to her and respect herthroughout the school.

Academically, Hannah earned membershipinto the National Honor Society. As an athlete,Hannah participated on state championshipteams of basketball and softball.She also played soccer.

I chose Merrimack College because my gut told me it was theright fit. I visited most of the schools in Division I and Division 3.I really like the school and I intend to study education or humandevelopment.

the flash, and just a really nice guy, waited patiently for

Seans moment on the Campbell High School stage. Hewas about to sign his letter of intent to join the University ofMassachusetts-Lowells track and field team this coming fall.

Seans selection to attend UMass-Lowell centered uponmany factors. He chose UMass Lowell for the relationshipsthat grew when he interviewed there. UMass-Lowell justfelt right, said the two-time NH State 800-meter champ.The coaches were great. The program is great and it just

felt right. I also believe that I can get my best educationat UMass-Lowell for my selected field. My chosen field isCriminal Justice and UMass-Lowell has one of the finest

programs in the nation.Munnelly, having set many new athletic track and field

records for Campbell High School, as well as for the state,remained consistent to the values and the goals of CHS:character, courage, respect and responsibility in all aspectsof life, commented CHS Principal Laura Rothhaus.

According to Principal Rothhaus, Sean was the hardeston himself. He continually challenged himself both on

and off the field to continue to improve. Just lookaround. The kids here love him. Theylove him, not because he is the bladerunner, they love him because ofwho he is. He sets the example ofwhat it means to belong to the CHScommunity.

In addition to his on-the-fieldactivities, Sean also volunteered hisservices on the CHS Student Counciland to Campbells Athletic LeaderProgram. As an athletic leader, Seanwalked the talk. He was a promoter

of the Campbell process of whichwe speak daily, continued PrincipalRothhaus.

In addition to winning the 800-meterstate championships for two years,Sean stretched himself to take secondplace in the NE 800 meter run as wellas in the one-mile run. He won the1000-meter indoor run for the State ofNH too.

submitted by Hudson Police DepartmentOn Friday, Nov. 14, at 7:13 a.m., members of the Hudson Police

Department Patrol Division responded to the area of Lowell Roadneat Atwood Avenue for a report of a motor vehicle collision. Upon

arrival, responding officers determined a 2011 Ford F250pick-up truck collided with the rear o f a 2006 AmericanSchool Bus carrying several middle school-aged children.

A further investigation determined the operator of the2011 Ford F250 pick-up truck, identified as StephenShanley, 20, of Hudson, was following too closely tothe school bus as it prepared to stop. The pick-up truckShanley was operating then collided with the rear ofthe school bus, shattering a lower glass window on theemergency exit door.

Neither Shanley, the children on the school bus,nor the operator of the school bus were injured in thecollision. The students were transferred to another busand subsequently transported to school. SuperintendantBryan Lane responded to the location of the collision andassisted with making notifications to the parents of thechildren from the school bus. Shanley was subsequentlyissued a citation for Following Too Closely.

Hudson Chamber Invites Publicto Attend Dinner for Charity

The Greater Hudson Chamber of Commercewill hold its Annual Silent Auction/Dinner forCharity at The White Birch Catering and BanquetHall on Tuesday, Dec. 9, at 6 p.m. Cost to attendis $25 per person and includes a buffet dinner ofroast beef, baked ham and pasta primavera.

The public is invited to join the chamber for agreat meal and possibly win some fabulous prizes,all while raising funds for a worthwhile cause.The event is a combination of raffle items andsilent auction items, which include event tickets,gift baskets, holiday items, gift certificates andmuch more. The GHCC is also welcoming itemdonations for the auction.

This will be the 12th year in which the moniesreceived during the evening will be donated tothe Hudson Food Pantry at the St. John the BlessedXXIII. The Hudson Food Pantry helps many localfamilies by maintaining a daily food pantry,

assisting with rent and utility bills, and especiallyduring the holidays by distributing food basketsand gifts to families in need. Again, the call forservices such as food requests, assistance withmedical needs, fuel assistance and basic livingexpenses has dramatically increased makingparticipation even more important.

Last year more than 50 businesses donatedwonderful items for the auction. With over 130guests in attendance showing their holiday spiritand generosity by participating in the auction,the chamber raised more than $3,800. Duringthe past 12 years, the GHCC Annual Auction hasdonated more than $58,000 for the benefit of ourcommunity.

U.S. Senator Kelly Ayotte (R-NH) voted on Nov. 17 toapprove bipartisan legislation to help working familiesin New Hampshire and across the country better accesschild care so that parents can work, train for work, orattend school. The legislation passed the Senate by a voteof 88 to 1 and now goes to the president to be signed intolaw.

Senator Ayotte was a cosponsor of the bill (S. 1086) to

reauthorize the Child Care and Development Block Grantprogram (CCDBG). The bill updates the program to allowstates to better develop their own child care programsand permits low-income families to use vouchers in orderto afford child care and after-school programs. To qualifyfor assistance, parents must demonstrate they are workingor enrolled in school, yet fall below certain incomethresholds.

Ive heard directly from New Hampshire parents whohave been able to continue to work while also having

access to more affordable child carethanks to CCDBG, and I was pleased tocosponsor this important legislation,said Senator Ayotte. Access to qualitychild care makes a real difference forworking parents in New Hampshire, andrenewing this program will help ensurethat those who want to work can pursue

opportunities to do so.The CCDBG was first signed into law by President

George H.W. Bush in 1990 to assist working families withthe cost of child care. The program, which serves morethan 1.6 million children every month, is administeredto states in formula block grants. States use the fundingto help low-income families gain access to quality,affordable child care and after-school programs whileparents work, train for work, or attend school. Assistanceis transferred to qualifying recipients through vouchers.

Eligibility requirements include: Family income cannot exceed 85 percent of

the state median (states have flexibility to adoptincome eligibility limits below this federalmaximum),

Children must be less than 13 years old, Children must live with parents who are

working, enrolled in school/training, or be inneed of p rotective services.

The legislation also includesprovisions to boost safety forchildren. The bill requires criminalbackground checks for child careproviders when they are hired andevery five years thereafter; thosewho have committed crimesagainst children or other violentcrimes would be disqualified fromworking with children.
