For many film buffs, Johnny Whitaker’s portrayal perhaps most evokes Twain’s beloved character-mischievous and clever, yet loveable and innocent. A splendid cast, including Celeste Holm, Warren Oates, and a precocious Jodie Foster (pictured with Whitaker) and original music by Richard M. Sherman and Robert B. Sherman, are among the many pleasures of this musical retelling of Tom and Huck’s adventures on the Mississippi River

Madwoman of Chaillot,” the classic tale of a wise old woman who saves the earth from greedy oil barons, all the while sheltering a pair of young lovers. Its original star, Angela Lansbury, won the 1999 Tony Award. The show is performed as a
staged reading with live music.

TUBA CHRISTMAS! Sunday, Dec 7, 6:30 p.m. Free Concert
It’s the 28th year of this great outdoor holiday tradition! As many as 300 players make up a huge tuba/euphonium ensemble, playing your favorite Christmas carols and holiday pop favorites on Brand Boulevard in front of the Alex Theatre. Ranging in age from 8 to 80, and coming from all over Southern California, they create a glorious sound with sing-a-long fun!
LOS ANGELES CHAMBER ORCHESTRA
“HOLIDAY HIJINKS!” Saturday, Dec 13, 2003, 8 p.m.Pre-Concert Lecture at 7:00 p.m. Tickets: Call (213) 622-7001, ext 215
Salute the Americas with this musical romp. The rags of Scott Joplin and James Reese Europe, and Daugherty’s tongue-in-cheek look at American pop culture will set your toes tapping. Golijov takes his inspiration from Yiddish lullabies, and jazz elements permeate the Stravinsky and the Ravel - the piano concerto also beloved for its achingly beautiful slow movement. It’s great classical music - American-style.
Since 1980, George Winston has recorded eight solo piano albums, each ofwhich promptly went gold, platinum or multi-platinum. His “Night
Divides the Day - The Music of The Doors,” arrived to critical acclaim, not the least of which came from the Doors’ legendary keyboardist, Ray
Manzarek, who said, “I love George’s playing.” You will, too, if youhaven’t experienced this jazz giant in concert before.
