Welcome

It is my great pleasure to welcome you to FIATECH’s Annual Technology Conference and Showcase March 31 through April 2 in exciting New Orleans, Louisiana.

Creating Sustainable Business Value the “Big Easy” Way: Deploying Innovative Technologies is the theme this year. It is very appropriate since the primary

focus of all our efforts is on how we can accelerate delivering increased, sustainable business value to our companies. This year’s conference and showcase will offer the broadest perspective to date of the possibilities and the deployment pathways for leading edge, innovative technologies.

During this 2 1/2 day special event, we will hear about and experience emerging technologies and solutions that will significantly improve the business effectiveness of the capital project industry and enable you to create sustainable business value in your company.

Being in the heart of New Orleans - the historic French Quarter - we will meld the excitement of this vibrant city with the discovery of new, better ways to plan and execute our capital projects and manage our installed facilities. In addition we’ll recognize and congratulate our exemplar peers during the Celebration of Engineering & Technology Innovations (CETI) Awards Gala on Tuesday night. Also at this time we will recognize those individuals who went above and beyond the call of duty within FIATECH projects, with the STAR Award. It is sure to be a night of great accomplishments and applause.

If you are not a current member of FIATECH, now is the time to join us and help lead the capital projects industry into a future where all your projects deliver the results expected safely, faster, and more cost effectively than ever before.

I and many leading owners, contractors and suppliers look forward to networking with you this week so that together we can accelerate the realization and gain the result of business benefits from FIATECH’s vision of a fully integrated and automated capital project process.

James B. Porter, Jr.2008 Tech Conference, Chair and Chief Engineer and Vice President, Engineering and Operations -- DuPont

Special Events

Joie de Vivre Opening Reception, Monday, March 31, 5:30pm - 7:30pm Sponsored by DuPont

To kick off our conference with the zest of cajun flavor, DuPont is throwing an opening reception that will surely get you in the New Orleans mood!

Joie de Vivre is a traditional Nawlins’ expression that means Joy of Life. Come to the reception in the Technology Showcase Area (La Nouvelle East and West) and get a sampling of what makes New Orleans one of the most unique places on earth!

Come and taste traditional Cajun food like Seafood Gumbo, Smoked Sausage en Croute and Crab Meat Tartlets while enjoying an open bar of New Orleans spirits such as Hurricanes and beer!

Do not leave too early as we will have a New Orleans palm reader and a bone reader to tell you what lies in your future! And what New Orleans trip wouldn’t be complete without a pound of beads around your neck? We will have plenty of Mardi Gras trinkets for you to take back home with you!

French Quarter Scavenger Hunt & Mardi Gras Closing Reception, Wednesday, April 2, 3:15pm - 7:30pm Sponsored by Dow Chemical

Join a “krewe” of merrymakers and start the hunt! We’ll begin at the hotel and each team will be given a treasure chest filled with important information, clues, quiz, map and other important materials. Krewe’s will select a captain as well as other important positions needed for each krewe’s success. Krewes are encouraged to be creative in their strategizing and at the appointed time the Hunt is on to historic New Orleans landmarks

and meetings with live and interesting characters representing the history and culture of New Orleans. You’ll get cool “treasures” at each location and the final clue will bring you to the Finish Line, back at the hotel for a well deserved treat at the Closing Mardi Gras themed reception!

CETI Awards Gala, Tuesday, April 1, 5:30pm - 10:00pm

To encourage innovative construction-related technologies that benefit the industry, in 2007 FIATECH established the CETI Awards - Celebration of Engineering & Technology Innovation. This award recognizes significant achievements in technology deployment and implementation in the capital projects industry.

Also in 2007, FIATECH began recognizing the personal achievements of individuals with the creation of the Superior Technical Achievement Award (STAR). These individuals gave above and beyond to our projects, throughout the year. Because of their leadership, sacrifice of time and commitment, FIATECH and the capital projects industry as a whole has benefited.

The reception starts at 5:30pm in the Technology Showcase, and the dinner will promptly begin at 7:00pm in the Queen Ann Ballroom. Dress for the event is business attire. Come and help celebrate the accomplishments with us on April 1st!
