Feature 1761: PLMN-Specific Services Feature description

Id:0900d805806fce47

1 Feature description

1.1 IntroductionThis feature introduces additional public land mobile network (PLMN)-specific services (PSSs). This feature enables you to provide each subscriber with up to 15 different PSSs, which are updated also to the network, unless you restrict the updating function. Restrictions are possible to be defined based on either the PLMN or the network ele-ments.

You can fully manage PSSs, which means that it is only you who can provide, interro-gate and withdraw them.

1.2 Benefits for the operatorYou can use PLMN-specific services (PSSs) for establishing your own services. For example, it is easy to take advantage of PSSs when some of the network nodes have to be swapped, but your old-vendor-specific services need to remain operative mean-while, or if some of your old-vendor-specific services overlap some DX-specific services.

1.3 Requirements for using the feature

1.3.1 SoftwareThe number of users allocated to certain PSSs is controlled with separate user count capacity licenses for each PSS.

1.3.2 HardwareThis feature has no special requirements for hardware.

1.3.3 ProductsThis feature functions in the Nokia Siemens Networks DX HLR.

1.4 Functionality

1.4.1 PSS handlingThrough the use of this feature, you can provide the subscribers with several PSSs. In the example, (see Figure PSS handling - system view) the operator provides a PSS, namely E6, to the subscriber (within the license limits), and this E6 PSS is stored in the database of the HLR.

With the parameters, the operator can decide whether to disable the PSS's updating to the network (it is enabled by default), or not. For more information about parameter han-dling, see Feature 585: DX HLR Parameter Management. If updating is enabled, the operator has to decide, based on the PLMN, which service the PSS should be mapped to. This is possible by defining the supplementary service (SS) code. In the example, the chosen service is F4.

Feature description

After that, the HLR updates the PSS to the network using the standard MAP interface. In the example, it means that E6 is updated to the appropriate network node (MSC) as F4, with an insert subscriber data (ISD) message either during a location update (LU) operation or in a standalone ISD. It is the node that decides how the PSS is used. This way also other vendors' services (corresponding PSSs) can be activated in the node.

When the HLR receives a send routing information (SRI) message from the gateway MSC (GMSC), the HLR includes F4 in the SRI acknowledgement (SRI-ack) message.

1.4.2 FilesThis feature does not affect any files that are directly visible to the operator.

1.4.3 StatisticsThis feature has no effects on statistics.

1.4.4 Parameters This feature has no effects on parameters.

1.4.5 ChargingThis feature has no effects on charging.

1.5 Capacity • CPU and MB capacity

This feature has no effect on CPU and MB capacity. • Link capacity

This feature has no effect on link capacity. • I/O capacity

This feature has no effect on I/O capacity. • Process and resource considerations

Several PSS services are added to subscriber data and they require space in the database of the HLR.

1.6 RestrictionsWhen setting the parameters, you are responsible for preventing sending supplemen-tary service (SS) codes which conflict with SS codes used in DX 200. For more informa-tion about parameter handling, see Feature 585: DX HLR Parameter Management. The table below shows the conflicting SS codes.

If you give the same PSS both as a providing and withdrawing parameter in the same command, the PSS in question is not provided.

When the delete subscriber data (DSD) message or the SRI-ack message are filled, the PSSs are added after all other supplementary services. In the (theoretically possible) case when the number of supplementary services exceeds the capacity of the list, the other services are conveyed to the network first and some PSSs might be lost.

1.7 Related and interworking features • Feature 585: DX HLR Parameter Handling

HOCKEY parameter CSRI is used to indicate whether the PLMN parameters need to be checked during the SRI or not. However, this parameter has no effect on HLR parameters.

• Feature 1569: Support of Optimal Routing for Basic Call CasesIn the case of basic optimal routing (BOR) SRIs, the PLMN parameters are always checked during the SRI.

• Feature 1867: SMS Routing via the Home NetworkThe PLMN-Specific Services feature has to be active to enable the provisioning the SMS Routing via the Home Network feature per subscriber basis. One of the PLMN-specific supplementary services is used to indicate whether the feature is provi-sioned to a certain subscriber or not.

• Feature 1917: IMSI - IMEI LockingThe PLMN-Specific Services feature has to be active to enable you to use the IMSI - IMEI Locking feature. One of the PLMN-specific supplementary services is used to indicate whether the IMSI - IMEI locking functionality is provisioned to a certain sub-scriber or not.

• Feature 1956: CFC Only to Home CountryThe PLMN-Specific Services feature has to be active to enable you to use the CFC Only to Home Country feature. One of the PLMN-specific supplementary services is used to indicate whether CF registration restriction is provisioned to a certain sub-scriber or not.

1.8 ComplianceThis is a DX-200-specific feature, however, the standard MAP interface is used to convey the PSSs to the nodes.
