    Sutras

After Vedas the Indian Literature developed into Sutras. Teachings of great sageswere in the form of Sutras. Sutras were teachings in brief. Vedangas like Nirukta,

Astaadaai of !anini "Vakarana# and $oga sutras, Srauta Sutras, %rha Sutras, &haram

Sutras and 'hakti sutras were composed. The %rha sutras deal with domestic sacrificesand rites to be performed. The &harma Sutras refer to customar law and practice.

These were assigned to the period between (th and )nd '*. Some of the sages like

    Gauthama, Baudhayana, Apasthamba and Vasishta.

    1) Grhya Sutras: The %rha Sutras deal with the domestic lives of the people.

+eference is made to the duties of the people from their birth to their death.!eople are reuired to perform man Samskara "rituals# right from the

arrangement of child-s birth "marriage of parents#.

My opinion: So we can understand that getting child is a part of life. In Taitiriya

Upanishad it is told that the teacher at the time of conocation adices his disciple as

follow! "#y dear student offer anything what is li$ed by the teacher and don%t cut thethread of &ra'a (child).* So marriage and producing children (+harma Santhathi

irtuous children) are parts of life. Also it is said "&ra'ayaahi #anushyah &oornah* Aman completes only by child. So the origin of Grhya Sutra is found in the Vedas and

    Upanishads.

!eople should follow the Asrama &haramas "'rahmachara, %rhastha,Vanaprastha and Sanasa, Varnasrama &harama, marriages as adviced " kinds#,

!ancha /ahaa0nas "'rahma, !itr, &eva, 'huta and Athithi# dail karmas etc.

    2) Dharma sutras: The are the part of %rha Stutras and called as Smritis. The&harmas in sutra form available in Vedanga 1alpa Sutra. Then it is developed

and composed in Sloka form. /ahabharatham contains lots of discussion on&harma. /anusmriti or /aanava &harma Sastram during unknown period wasver famous and in practice till 2) th*entur A&. 1alidasa of 2 '*, /edhathithi

    of 3thA& and 1ullooka 'hatta of 2)thA& had mentioned about /anu &harama.

After /anusmriti, $a0avalka, Narada, !araasara, 'rhaspati are some of theauthors of &harma Sastras and the are pre4historian works. It includes law also.

$a0avalka Smriti has the influence in the rules of Indian !enal *ode. There are

also a large number of digests on law, which are highl valuable and authoritative.

    3) Bhakti Sutras: The concept of 'hakti is part of Sanskrit Literature. Sage

Narada advised it in Sutra form. Sage Sandila also composed 'hakti Sutras.

This concept is also discussed in 'hagavad %ita. 'ut eight fold of 'hakti isadviced b Sage Narada and the are5"Shravanam, Keertanam, Vishnoho

Smaranam, Padasevanam, Archanam, Vandanam, Dasyam, Sakhyam,

    Atmanivedanam". (SrimadBhaavata.!#232$). (1%112&&3).
