Summary
Incumbents in the Purchasing Assistant position work closely with University employees and vendors to acquire goods and services for University departments, assist with the routing and review of University contracts, and perform duties to support the daily operation of the Purchasing and Contract Services office.
Reporting and Supervisory Responsibilities
The Purchasing Assistant reports to a Director and/or Associate Director. This classification has no supervisory responsibilities.
Typical Functions
1. Complies with and maintains knowledge of University policies and procedures.2. Manages assigned procurement commodities.3. Assists in general procurement activities including requisition, review, and approval.4. Assists with strategic sourcing events including Requests for Quote and Invitations for Bid.5. Receives, analyzes, routes, and maintains files as they pertain to purchasing and contracts.6. Opens and closes the office daily, answers telephones during working hours, and greets and
assists visitors promptly and professionally.7. Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.

1. Interpersonal, communication, and writing skills.2. Ability to communicate effectively and efficiently via phone and email.3. Excellent typing and computer skills. Minimum Qualifications
Experience in an office or customer service environment or an associate degree/vocational training is required.
Work Environment and Physical Requirements
Employees work indoors and are protected from weather and/or contaminants, but not, necessarily, occasional temperature changes. The employee is regularly required to sit and often uses repetitive hand motions.
