Case Study: Using Social Media in the Medical Industry Cathy Henesey, SPHRManager, Career ServicesChildren’s Medical Center of Dallas
The Unconference Format“An unconference is a facilitated, participant-driven
conference centered on a theme or purpose. The term "unconference" has been applied, or self-applied, to a wide range of gatherings that try to avoid one or more aspects of a conventional conference, such as high fees and sponsored presentations” Wikipedia
Rules of an unconference• No powerpoint…..I will do a little• Very interactive with audience – challenge me on
decisions• Can take on its own life based on audience
SWOT Analysis (March 2010)Strengths
• Excellent Brand/Well known hospital
• Productive recruiting team using good traditional sources
• Good usage of Associates to do the back end of hiring so recruiters are free to recruit.
• Commitment to $$ for sourcing
Opportunities• Increase passive recruiting –
eliminate agency fees at all levels and introduce different sourcing tools for recruiters
• Evaluate process flow and eliminate waste
Weaknesses• High volumes of candidates• Outdated Process Maps and little
documentation on processes• Lots of “rework” throughout
process due to mistakes• No passive recruiting methods
other than attending conferences
Threats• Time for recruiters to incorporate
new changes and adapt to change (can’t change too many things at once)
• General resistance to change added need to get buy-in
