One summer, I ended up ‘Birthday’ shoppingwith mom. Unlike ordinary shopping, birthdayshopping leads to a series of random tryouts.

Next to the trial room was an Indian Terrain adthat read, “Man did not evolve from apes tobehave like sheep”. I looked at the guys aroundme, then I looked at myself. me, then I looked at myself. Walking out of themall, I said, “Man does not scavenge for clotheswith other sheep”.

That line made its way here, the beginning of amany-a-times edited story. This happens a lot. I obsess over random lines. I obsess over a lot of things. Bombay, one such thing.

Once, loitering aOnce, loitering around on my way to college, Icame across this cast-iron building. Supposedly,a swanky hotel back in 1860s, the building now swarmed with lawyer chambers. They say Mark Twain, once stayed there.Yeah, THE MARK TWAIN!

I guess, dilapidated buildings were moreappealing than academics. Besides ogling atold structures, I did the typical failing at love,but the not-so-typical falling in love, with poetry,70s rock and Bukowski.

Charles Bukowski. The man wrote like myddreams. You know that feeling when you come across something that impeccably addressesyour emotions? ‘Find What You Love And Let ItKill You’ and ‘Don’t Try’ did that for me. Theyspoke of being thorough with your aim. Even if it meant drowning with it. Bearing the pain,getting to it. Thegetting to it. There’ll always be an easier way. There’ll always be others who’ll cut lines to getto it, but ‘Man did not evolve from apes tobehave like sheep’.

I notice, this is taking too much of your time.So, I'll narrate the rest in person at the grillingsession. Aftesession. After-all, who doesn’t love putting the screws onto the new guy?
