• Data Governance covers both privacy and security • Root of Data Governance is Accountability • Accountable organiza=on:
o Demonstrates commitment to accountability o Implements policies linked to recognized outside criteria o Establishes performance mechanisms to ensure responsible decision-‐making about management of data consistent with organiza=on’s policies

Commitment
• Criteria: o Commitment must be at highest level of organiza=on o Policies and plans to put them into place must be approved by organiza=on’s leadership
• Demonstra=on: o Public statements of support by head of organiza=on o Policies and plans puIng them in place reviewed and approved by Leadership Team

• Criteria: o Policies linked to laws, generally accepted principles, and best prac=ces
• Implementa=on: o Data Governance Policies cover both privacy and security

Performance Mechanisms
• Criteria: o Mechanisms are deployed to act on policies and to monitor those mechanisms
o Mechanisms include training and processes to assure compliance
• Establishment: o Execu=ve introduc=on to training o Posters, tent cards, awareness leUers, videos o GRC (governance, risk management and compliance)
