How would you solve for AC using what you learned in 1201?
Dx y
Steps:
1. Create 90 angle triangles
2. Find "x" using Cosine
3. Find "z" using tangent
4. Find "y" using tangent
5. Find AC (AC=x+y)
That's a lot of WORK!

Now, draw an altitude from a different vertex, and write two more equivalent expressions.
What do you notice? (Hint: use the transitive property)

In order to use the sine law you have to be able to label a triangle correctly. Here are the rules:
1. Angles are always labelled as capital letters
2. Sides are always labelled as lowercase letters
3. The side and the angle that are directly across from one another must have the same letter
When do we use Sine Law?• When the triangle is NOT a right angle triangle• When you have at least one side AND at least one angle involved.

In an acute triangle, if you are given an angle & its opposite side and one other piece of information, you can solve the triangle. This means you can find all other missing parts of the triangle.
Ex 1) Solve the following triangles.
A) ΔDEF where , , and d = 5.4 cm.
Sep 179:36 PM
B) ΔLMN where , , and l = 6.8 in.

Toby uses chains attached to hooks on the ceiling and a winch to lift engines at his father’s garage. The chains, the winch and the ceiling are arranged as shown. Toby solved the triangle using the sine law to determine the angle that each chain makes with the ceiling to the nearest degree. He claims that θ = 40° and a = 54°. Is he correct? Explain and make the necessary corrections.

A forester is trying to measure a tree on the far side of a river. He lays out a baseline of 100 m between point A and B. The angle between the baseline and the line to the tree from A is 62°. The angle between the baseline and the line to the tree from the B is 37°. The angle of elevation from B to the top of the tree is 25°. Determine the height of the tree.
