How World War One Started.

The thing that started World War One was the assassination of Austria’s Archduke Franz Ferdinand. The person who murdered him was Gavrilo Princip - and he was a Serbian nationalist with ties to secretive military group, named Black Hand.

The Triple EntenteFrance, Britain and Russia formed an alliance known as The Triple Entente. Russia used to be a member of the Triple Emperors with Germany and Austria Hungary. The alliance established in 1873 between Kaiser Wilhelm l, Tsar Alexander ll and Franz Joseph l as a part of Otto Von Bismark’s plot to diplomatically isolate France.

The German chancellor is worried that France will try to get back their 1871 losses. After a while, the league faced a few challenges with the rising tensions between Austria Hungarian and Russian Empire. The argument was mostly over the Balkans. With the growing nationalism and the decline of the Ottoman Empire, most Ottoman provinces struggled for independence.

How They Slept

The people slept in little holes called “dugouts.” The rankers got something way worse, they got “shelters” and they were just little rectangular holes cut in walls of the trench.

The size of the dugouts were about 2 to 4 ft. 6 in wide, roofed with corrugated iron or bush wood and then covered with 9 inches of the earth. Frank Percy Crozier was in shock when he saw the first dugout he encountered.

The End

The final Allied pushed near the German border began on October 17th, 1918. While the Brittish, French and American armies advanced, the alliance between the Central Powers began to collapse. Turkey signed an armistice at the end of October, Austria-Hungary followed on November 3.
