How to write references The reference page will appear near the end of your written document. It lists the sources that you cite in your paper. The Reference page is numbered in the upper right hand corner. Every thing on the page should be double spaced. The reference line begins with the name of the author, followed by the date of publication. Then comes the title of the publication (book, article, journal etc) , and in the end the name of the publishing authority is mentioned. First names are not important, only last names or the initials of first names e.g Thomas Hardy will be written as Hardy, T. Each entry begins flush left and the next line is indented five spaces. The date of publications appears after the author’s name.e.g Hardy,T. (1897) Capitalization matters. Only the first word of titles of books and articles is capitalized (and the first word after a colon). But in titles of journals, newspapers and magazines all important words are capitalized and italicized. The titles of journals are not italicized.
