How to Vote in an Automated Election
By: Cyrill Tan
So, youre a first time voter. You wake up on May 10 finding that the fate of your country lies in
your very hand. You can only cast one vote but this one vote could make a total difference. Now, youre
equipped with the knowledge of who to vote for, but how would you vote for them during the election
may come as a trouble, especially now that they have everything automated.
Well, worry no more, here are the steps into voting your way in an automated election.
Step 1: wake up early and go to your designated precincts and check for your name. You can
only vote in one precinct as the number of ballots is exact. Bring your voters ID or any valid ID with your
registration stub. Unlike at school where you can sneak your way in the building even without any IDs
presented, the voting precincts would not let you touch the ballots without it.
Step 2: now, you can go to the Board of Election Inspectors to get a ballot for yourself. Make
sure you have the ID that the inspectors need and make sure as well that it is really your precinct.
Step 3: we know that the reason you are going out to vote is for your voice to be heard, but
before that listen first to the Board of Election Inspectors as they give you instructions on filling up the
ballot.
Step 4: you can now receive the ballot from the Board of Election Inspectors. Just like what we
have already mentioned a while ago, the number of ballots is exact so dont play with it. Treat it with
great care as though it is a precious gem that needs utmost care.

Step 5: proceed to your seat and fill up the ballot by shading the oval before the name of your
desired candidates. Remember, do not overvote! If during the last minute, you find it hard to choose
among the presidential candidates, do not shade two or three for crying out loud. The number of votes
that you should cast is indicated so it would not be hard for you to remember all the number of
positions to be filled before voting. Another reminder is that you do not have to bring your lucky pen for
this particular activity as the Board of Election Inspectors would provide you with one and it would be
the only pen that you would be allowed to use.
Step 6: take your ballot to the counting machine and wait for the confirmation message that it
has been counted.
Step 7: go back to the Board of Election Inspectors with a smile on your face and let him put
indelible ink on one of your fingers.
Voila! You have just taken part into yet another event that would go down on history. The last
step would be to go back to your house and monitor whats going all over the country. Secure the vote
youve cast. Stay tuned on the news feeding us with the latest turnouts of the election.
Now that you know all these things, I hope youre ready to cast your vote and be a part of the
Filipino generation who would make the difference.
