How to use the Cyber library This E-guide will show you how to use the cyber library to find information on the Internet. The cyber library contains links to hundreds of websites chosen, described and organised by librarians from public library services across south-west England. To get to the cyber library using a Cornwall library computer, Double click on the internet explorer icon, this will open to the Cornwall Council Homepage, scroll down the page to Libraries (left hand side of screen) under ‘popular links’ and click on Libraries. How to use the Cyber library

This E-guide will show you how to use the cyber library to find

information on the Internet. The cyber library contains links to

hundreds of websites chosen, described and organised by librarians

from public library services across south-west England.

To get to the cyber library using a Cornwall library computer,

Double click on the internet explorer icon, this will open to the

Cornwall Council Homepage, scroll down the page to Libraries (left

hand side of screen) under ‘popular links’ and click on Libraries.

You are then on the Libraries page. To use the Cyberlibrary, select

‘Cyberlibrary’

To get to the cyber library on your home computer,

type www.cornwall.gov.uk/library in the address bar and press

the return or enter key on the keyboard. The cyber library button

(as above) is on the Library homepage.

When you have the cyber library open, make it the same size as the

screen by clicking the Maximise button in its top right hand corner.

It’s the middle one of the three:

The subjects will be listed on the left of the screen, as below

Click on the subject of your choice to be taken to a list of websites.

In the example above, the Family history button was chosen and

the cyber library shows a list of family history websites underlined

in bold with a brief description. Just click on any of them to be

taken to the website.

To the left of the list of websites are further categories within the

family history section.

Don’t forget you can go back to the last page you looked at

(and the one before that, and the one before that, etc) by clicking

the Back button at the top left of the screen

To get back to the opening page of the cyber library,

click the word Home below the title

To check your e-mails or create a new e-mail address, click

To search the Internet for just about anything, click

This will take you to Google and a list of other search engines.

Other online services are on the right of the screen. (If you

are using your home computer, you will need a Cornwall library

card to access these sites.)

Click to search 55,000 biographies of people

who shaped the history of the British Isles and beyond, from the

earliest times to the year 2003.

Beneath these, click on to view more online reference

sites that Cornwall library service subscribes to on your behalf.

Under you will find:

(Newsbank allows you to search the full text of national and

regional newspapers from 1998 right up to yesterday.)
