Tip No. 1 Using LinkedIn.com Platform – who should I be contacting?

Under the “Connections” tab click on “ Find Alumni”

This is automatically defaulted to your school

You can change the school you want to target

The search box is Boolean enabled

Enter your desired job title eg: vp OR “vice president”

Tailor this down by a company you are targeting:

Scroll across and tailor this down to your 2nd degree connections

Contacting your 2nd degree connections will allow you to leverage your shared connections

Tip No. 2 Using LinkedIn.com Platform – who are the job posters? On the LinkedIn homepage. Under the “Interest” tab, click on “Groups”

You can search for a group you are not already following - On the right hand side you will see “Find a Group”

When you have targeted a group, click on the “jobs” tab

to view currently open roles

When you click into a job, you will more times than none, see the job poster’s details on the right hand side

Search for this job poster in LinkedIn Recruiter

If this LinkedIn member is a 2nd degree connection you can leverage any shared connections

Tip No. 3 On LinkedIn Recruiter – Who is hiring?

On the recruiter homepage click “Advanced Search”

Scroll all the way down to “Years at Current Company” and tick the “Less than 1 year” box

Click on the “Company Size” and choose the ones relevant to you and press search

Use the refinement filters to cut down by Location and Industry.

On the left hand side you will see the companies who have hired in the last year

Save your Search and set up a Search Alerts

Get notified when a company starts hiring again

Tip No. 4 On LinkedIn.com – who are the contacts in my targeted company?

On the LinkedIn homepage, click “Companies” from the search box drop down menu

Most companies will have a LinkedIn company page.

On the right hand corner you will see how many connections you

have within the company. Click on your second degree connections

At the top of the page you will see “View results in Recruiter”

You now want to refine this result down to the people you are targeting eg. Hiring manager, team

leader, director

On the left hand side click “Advanced Keyword”. A separate box will appear, click on “Job Title”

Under “Job Title” enter your Boolean search string and ensure you choose “current only”

Refine your results down to your region using the location refinement filter

Save your search and set up a search alerts – you will be notified the moment someone new joins LinkedIn or someone updates their LinkedIn profile and they are inside this search criteria
