How to use Glogster: A Tutorial Once you have logged on, using your teacher’s instructions, you may
follow this tutorial in order to make a glog.
First, click on “My Dashboard”, if you are not already on your
dashboard.
Once you have clicked on “My Dashboard”, you should see something
similar to this:
\
Click on the button which reads “Create New Glog”. Then you should see a
“generic” glog that Glogster has created. Don’t worry, you can change
EVERYTHING about this page. Because I am making the tutorial the week before
Easter, this is what I see:
The first thing I want to do is change the “Wall” or the design in the background
of the glog. So, in the box to the left, I click the button that says “Wall”.
There are many options from which I can choose. I have chosen a poem about a
dinosaur, so I am going to look for something that can go along with that. I pick a
green background from the “Monsters” list because I think that will go well with
my dinosaur poem.
My next step is to put my poem on the glog, since that is my focus. I want the
title to be separate from the poem itself, so I start with that idea. I click on
“Text” next and see this:
So, I choose a title format and add that to my glog. Glogster adds it at the
bottom, so I move it to top and center by simply putting my cursor on the middle
of it and moving it. This is what I see:
I click the “Edit” button, which gives me a cursor in it. I type the title there.
Then, I use the arrows on the corners of the image to make it bigger. I add a
second, smaller text graphic to put the author’s name in. Then, I click text again
to add a larger text box for the text of the poem.
I choose a text box (or “sticker”) and add the text of the poem. I must stretch
the sticker quite a bit to fit the poem in.
I still have a hard time fitting the text in the sticker, so I click the Ab1 button on
the toolbar, which allows me to change the font, size, and color of the text. Now,
it fits nicely.
My next step is to add in some text boxes to point out the different literary
terms. I am going to use some “bubbles” for this, because they can point to
different areas of the poem. There are some graphics that also do this. Feel free
to play around with the different graphics and text boxes. If you do not like
whatever you have chosen, there is a trash can on the toolbar above the image so
that you can delete it. This is what I come up with:
My next step is to load some images and graphics that will match the poem. So, I
click on the “graphics” or “images” tools to be able to do this. The easiest way to
do images is to download images to your pc and then upload them to Glogster.
Since it is a dinosaur poem, I did a Google images search for the dinosaur, and
uploaded a picture of that dinosaur. Then, I picked out some graphics that went
along with the theme (some bones and a paw print that could pass as dinosaur-
like).
Finally, if you have a webcam on your computer, or even just a built-in microphone,
you can use the “grab” feature in the sounds, videos, or images tools to be able to
record yourself reading the poem.
The last step to the glog is to save it.
At the top of the page, you will see the option to save and publish it. Click that
button.
Give your blog a name, which will change the address of the blog. Keep the setting
as public for now. You can change it to private after you have shared it with the
teacher and received your grade on it.
Once you click save, it will bring up a page that will give you the web address of
your glog. Make sure you write this down as your teacher may want to access it
this way rather than having each student log in to share the glog with everyone
else.
