Part 1
You will learn about: • C-‐A-‐D-‐E • No Trumps Yes • Yellow Paint
C-‐A-‐D-‐E stands for: • Color • Arrow • Days/Times • Except • 2nd Except
C=Color • Red-‐ALERT! • White-‐Most Jmes all right
A=Arrow • Is the arrow poinJng to your car? • If not, your parking space is safe • If so, you may have to go…read the rule
D=Date/Time
!
• What days/Jmes does the parking rule apply
E=Except-‐Double Except
!
• Except what type of vehicle is permiQed to park here? • Commercial • Truck loading/unloading • Permit parking • Authorized • Taxi
Let’s analyze the red sign • Color (C)-‐Red Alert (if you’re parking a passenger vehicle)
• Arrow (A)-‐Points to my space? • Days/Time (D)-‐Mon-‐Sat/7AM-‐7PM • Except (E)-‐NO STANDING, except commercial vehicles, from 7AM-‐7PM on Mondays-‐Saturdays. All vehicles may park here before 7AM and a[er 7PM
• 2nd Except-‐means, you are permiQed to park your passenger or commercial vehicle on Sundays. (yea!).
NO Trumps YES • Red sign on top versus White sign on boQom of the gotcha pole • Red says NO • White says YES • N0 Trumps Yes during the days/hours rule on red sign is in effect
Yellow Paint-‐fugetaboutit • Yellow paint on a curb means zero, nada, nothing with regard to parking rules (bus stop zones, distance from fire hydrant, etc.)
Part 2
You’ll learn in part 2: • Your rights when a brand, spanking new, parking sign is installed • What parking sign regulates your space when you park your car in two parking zones • How do you know when a parking sign regulates your parking space?
Installation of a new parking sign
• You can beat a NYC parking Jcket if you present the proper proof properly that a parking sign changing the parking rule was installed within 5 days of the issuance of your parking Jcket
Here’s how you parked
Here’s a red sign behind your car, with the arrow pointing to your parking space
What parking sign regulates your parking space?
• The answer is… BOTH! • A parking sign regulates all parking spaces in the direcJon(s) of the arrow(s) unJl the next parking sign, or end of the block
• In this example, the car is parked in two parking zones. The front end of the car is parking in the zone regulated by the street cleaning sign, while the rear of the car is parked in the zone regulated by the red no standing except… sign
• The more restricJve rule wins. You cannot park here legally if the rule on one sign permits parking, while the rule on the other sign prohibits parking. No trumps yes.
Part 3
You’ll learn in Part 3:
• “No Parking AnyJme” regulaJon-‐white sign • “Street Cleaning” regulaJon-‐white sign • “No Parking certain days/Jmes” regulaJon-‐white sign • “No Standing AnyJme” regulaJon-‐red sign • “Limited Parking” regulaJon-‐white sign • “No Standing except, except” regulaJon-‐red sign • “2-‐3-‐4 Headed Monster on a gotcha pole” –red, white and blue sign

3 (or more) PARKING SIGNS ON A GOTCHA POLE
