• Loosely based on the English 2003 book of the same name

• The film was directed by Chris Sanders and Dean DeBlois, the duo who directed Disney's Lilo & Stitch

Awards• The film was released

March 26, 2010 and was a critical and commercial success, earning nearly $500 million worldwide

• Nominated for the Academy Award for Best Animated Feature and Best Original Score at the 83rd Academy Awards, but lost to Toy Story 3 and The Social Network, respectively

• The movie also won ten Annie Awards, including Best Animated Feature

Hiccup Horrendous Haddock III

• Member of the Hairy Hooligan tribe

• Son of the chief, Stoick the Vast

• Smart and is constantly creating inventions for various uses

• Obsessed with proving himself to the rest of his tribe at first

• Doesn't think things through and determined to gain the recognition

• Often causing problems for the tribe and himself.

• shows great aptitude at being a leader and strategist

• has very good observational skills which come in handy during his time with Toothless and during dragon training

• first comes off as awkward, mainly because he is a poor fighter, and rather scrawny for a Viking.

• remains shy and secretive, preferring to be alone with Toothless

• sarcastic with a dry sense of humor that can sometimes put him at odds with the other Vikings in his tribe.

Plot

• The island of Berk is a Viking village that is plagued by attacks from dragons that steal their livestock and burn their homes.

• Hiccup, the awkward son of the village chieftain, shoots down a dragon he thinks may be a Night Fury, a rare dragon nobody has ever actually seen.

• But finds he is unable to kill the helpless animal. Hiccup instead cuts it free

• Hiccup finds the dragon trapped with its tail injured, preventing it from flying normally.

• Hiccup discovers a way to earn the dragon's trust and begins to care for it.

• He soon becomes the star pupil

• Much to the dismay of Astrid, a girl in dragon training on whom Hiccup has a crush.

• Astrid discovers Toothless and attempts to tell the villagers, but Hiccup takes her for a ride on Toothless instead.

• Toothless unexpectedly takes the Astrid and Hiccup straight into the dragon's nest, where the truth behind the dragons' constant raids of their village is revealed

• The Red Death, a gigantic dragon, depends on the food they bring back or else it feeds on the dragons themselves.

• Astrid wants to tell the village of the nest, but Hiccup wants to keep it a secret to protect Toothless.

• Hiccup fails to show the village the dragon's true nature and put himself in danger instead.

• Toothless flies in to save him, but is captured himself.

• Stoick refuses to listen to his son,

demotes Hiccup from being a Viking, disowns him, and leaves with another fleet

• Hiccup then concocts a plan to save the Vikings with the help of the school's captive dragons and his classmates.

• The teens arrive when the Viking fleet has already discovered the Red Death.

• Hiccup and Toothless kills the Red Death with a massive explosion.

• Once the explosion has settled, Stoick finds Toothless, who reveals an unconscious Hiccup safely wrapped in his wings.

• The film ends with the war between Vikings and Dragons finally over with Hiccup and his friends racing their dragons

• They finally live happily forever after :)
