8.0 Communication
In Touch ‘n Go the main communication parties are the card and the RFID reader. They uses the
Radio wave signal as a medium for communicate each other and transfer data. Whenever the
card touched or placed on the reader, the reader will immediately surround the card with the
magnetic field and powers the chip. The chip will quickly transmit data to the reader. One the
database confirms the value and made the payment, the system via the reader will transmit data
which the new balance and information’s to the cards chip. The system also will display the fee
amount and the new balance on the screen provided for the user in both public transport,
highway toll, kiosk, ATM machine, and others. This is the same way how SmartTAG
communicates with the reader but it is battery powered, it is known as RFID tag. SmartTAG
functions when the Touch ‘n Go card attached together it. When the vehicle enters the
SmartTAG lane, the reader will transmit signal to the device, then SmartTAG will start to
communicate as normal Touch ‘n Go card.
9.0 User Guide
9.1 Reload
9.1.1 Touch ‘n Go Sales Counters
Step 1: Bring the Touch ‘n Go card to the sales counter (such as Toll Plaza, LRT,
Shopping mart and …) or reload lane.
Step 2: Inform the sales person the required amount for reload. (Such as RM 5, RM 10,
RM 20, RM 50 and …).
Step 3: Make the payment for the amount reloaded.
Step 4: Receive Touch ‘n Go card and its receipt for future reference.
9.1.2 At ATMs and Kiosks
Step 1: Bring the Touch ‘n Go card to any ATM (that provide reloading features) or
Kiosks.
Step 2: Follow the guide given on the screen of ATM (depends on Banks type and
method of reloading) or kiosk.
Step 3: (For Kiosks) insert required amount for reload.
Step 4: Keep the reload receips for future reference.
9.2 Usage Guidelines
9.2.1 Distance-Based fare (LRT/MONORAIL/KTM and BUSSES)
Step 1: Ensure that you have sufficient balance in the card always (Minimum RM3).
Step 2: Touch IN the card at the reader when entering.
Step 3: Touch OUT the card at the reader again when exit. (Must use the same card).
Step 4: The total distance fare will be deducted in Touch OUT. The fare and balance will
be sown on the display.
Step 5: (For Busses) The Maximum fare will be charged if the card is not Touch OUT
using the same card Touch IN.
9.2.2 Fixed-Fare
9.2.2.1 Tolls Expressways (Touch ‘n Go Card)
Step 1: Must ensure that have sufficient balance in the card before using it.
Step 2: Touch the card at the reader in the Touch ‘ Go lane
Step 3: Wait until the “beep” sound.
Step 4: “Gate will open” The deducted fare and new balance will be displayed at the Toll
Fare indicator.
9.2.2.2 Tolls Expressways (SmartTAG)
Step 1: Must ensure it has enough battery in device and sufficient balance in Touch ‘n Go
card.
Step 2: Must ensure SmartTAG have mounted on the front windscreen of the car using
the bracket provided. (For the infrared ray from SmartTAG to communicate with the
reader).
Step 3: Enter the SmartTAG lane.
Step 4: Reduce distances and speed between other vehicles.
Step 5: (If SmartTAG fails) use the intercom for assistance from the toll plaza staff.
