The following courses will participate in End of Course state testing:

★ Biology or Honors Biology

★ English 9 or Honors English 9, English 10 or Honors English 10

★ Algebra 1, Geometry or Honors Geometry

★ U.S. History or Honors U.S. History, Government

★ Students must earn a cumulative passing score of 18 points, using seven

end-of-course state tests. To ensure students are well rounded, they must earn a

minimum of four points in math, four points in English and six points across

science and social studies

★ Each end-of-course state test is worth up to 5 points, a score of 3 is considered

passing

★ AP & CCP (science & social studies) Courses do not participate in end-of-course

exams

Geometric design is a math and art course designed to engage students in

real world, hands-on, collaborative learning while mastering core geometry and arts skills.

Who should take the course:

★ Students who have a curious lens as they examine the world around them.

★ Students who see obstacles as puzzles and are excited by the challenge.

★ Students who enjoy collaborating to solve problems.

★ Students who approach problems in unique or unorthodox ways.

★ Students who take academic risks.

★ Students who have passed Algebra 1.

BE is a co-taught Honors English 9 and Honors Biology course. It is a research-based

course focusing on critical thinking and application. The course integrates biological concepts

(cells, genetics, ecology, evolution, and related ethical issues) with complementary literature

that meets state standards.

★ Students will read a variety of works, including poetry, plays, and nonfiction, to learn

about biological issues while using these sources as a springboard for discussion and

understanding of relevant material.

■ Of Mice and Men by John Steinbeck

■ The Tempest by William Shakespeare

■ The Hour of Land by Terry Tempest Williams

■ Two choice books: one nonfiction and one fiction

★ Complete Course Selection Sheet using traditional course request

(Geometry/Honors Geometry, Honors Biology, Honors English 9, etc)

★ Applications will be completed during the Focus period on February 5

★ You will be notified if you have been selected for the course/courses.

★ Your School Counselor will change your schedule to reflect the proper

course placement.

★ Step 1: Schedule from home. Window will be open Monday 2/4/19 through Friday 2/8/19

★ Step 2: Students must return their Course Request Sheet by Monday, 2/11/2019 to their

homeroom teacher.

○ Parent signature is required

○ If you do NOT turn this sheet in, you will not receive a Course Verification Sheet

★ Step 3: Course Verification Sheets will be distributed during the week of 2/18/2019 to

students that have submitted their Course Request Sheets.

★ Step 4: Course Verification Sheet must be returned to the homeroom teacher, with

parent signature.
