Does the thought of remodeling your kitchen make you feel like this?

Just follow our 5 tips and you’ll be feeling like this...

well, at least about your kitchen remodel.

Tip 1: Ask questions - a lot of questions

Do not be afraid to ask questions. This is your home and your money. Create a list and jot down every question that comes to mind. For instance, ask if subcontractors will be used or why this quote is so much lower than the other quotes you received.

Tip 2: Plan for delays

Maybe your cabinets will be backordered or maybe your plumber will be running behind. Whatever the case, it’s better to be safe than sorry. To relieve some of your stress try not scheduling any home events (ex. a birthday party) right around the

time your remodel is supposed to be done. Pad your calendar and give yourself at least an extra week.

Tip 3: Plan ahead for inconveniences

Depending on how extensive your kitchen remodel is going to be, you may not be able to use your kitchen for days. Plan ahead as to where and how you’re going to prepare food and eat. Also consider what you’ll do if your water is going to be shut off

for any amount of time.

Tip 4: Never assume

You know what they say about assuming right? Never do that when it comes to a remodel. For instance, never simply assume that a company will haul away your old flooring, cabinets, countertops, or appliances. In addition, if your remodel requires a

permit never assume the general contractor is going to handle it. Always ask and confirm!

Tip 5: Take some time off

Okay, you’d probably rather be spending your vacation here than in your kitchen. However, if you have some vacation time consider using a few days to be at home for your kitchen remodel. You’ll be on hand to keep an eye on progress and answer any

questions. Some companies do offer evening and weekend appointments and installations but it can be hard to coordinate that with your work schedule.

Bonus Tip!

If you are doing extensive remodeling and simply don’t have time to handle all of the details consider hiring a renovation coach. This is a relatively new role in the industry but this individual basically coordinates your entire

remodeling effort. Depending on your schedule and how intense your remodel is this added expense may be well worth it!
