Combat related history

• According to the U.S. Army Medical Department, Medical Research and Materiel Command, since mid-World War II, nearly 50 percent of combat deaths have been due to exsanguinating hemorrhage (bleeding out). Of those, half could likely have been saved if timely, appropriate care had been available.

Tourniquet• SAVES LIVES, COMBAT PROVEN !!• Easy to use, no longer required to let it out

and then re-tighten periodically to allow a little blood flow, can be worn for hours and the limb can still be saved.

• Can be self-applied.

Quick Clot• Not easy to self-apply.• Works by Cauterizing the wound and stopping

the blood flow.• Hurts more, therefore easier for someone else

to apply.• Very effective and also combat proven.• Used best in big open wounds that are deep

or too big for the Combat Gauze wrap.

Combat Gauze

Combat Gauze• Same principal as Quick Clot.• Has the Quick Clot powder infused into the

wrap.• Slightly easier to self-apply, but still best if

applied by someone else.• Works better in that it isn’t dumping powder

into the wound, and is used best with non-gaping wounds.

Current EMS kits

• We currently have four kits located at the A, B, LL, & HQ safes.

• We will be getting kits eventually for the cars.• The bag can be shoulder thrown and carried on

your back.• These kits are to be checked on while checking the

Rifle Safe(s), just check to make sure they don’t look like they’re missing anything or tampered with.

Summary• If you’re in an active shooter situation and you pass

someone who is shot or an Officer takes a round, move on to continue the mission.

• DO NOT STOP, smooth fast dynamic response to an active shooter doesn’t allow you to stop and treat, finish the objective at hand, secondary sweep, then treat.

• Fire Department and Medics will probably wait till the secondary sweep has been completed prior to coming in to assist.
