5 Steps to better mental health over Christmas
It’s important to take care of yourself, especially when
exams are approaching. Below are 5 practical ways to
look after your mental health this Christmas. Making
simple changes to how you live doesn’t need to cost a
fortune or take up loads of time.
Talk about your feelings - Its important to talk to
someone you trust, whether you’re stressed or just
upset. Talking to someone about it feels a lot better
than keeping things bottled up. Being with friends and
family over Christmas can really help keep your mind
occupied and reduce stress.
Keep active - Regular exercise can boost your self-
esteem and can help you look and feel better, concen-
trate better and sleep better. Exercise keeps the brain
and your other vital organs healthy; it is also a signifi-
cant benefit towards improving your mental health.
Eat well - Your brain needs a mix of nutrients in order
to stay healthy and function well, just like the other
organs in your body. A diet that’s good for your physi-
cal health is also good for your mental health.
Take a break - Taking a break may mean being very
active. It may mean not doing very much at all. Take a
deep breath… and relax. If you’re really tired, give
yourself time to sleep. Without good sleep, our mental
health suffers and our concentration goes downhill.
Sometimes the world can wait. Being with friends and
family over Christmas can really help keep your mind
occupied and reduce stress.
Do something you love - Enjoying yourself can help
beat stress. Doing an activity you enjoy
probably means you’re good at it, and
achieving something boosts your self-esteem
Your present circum-
stances don’t determine
where you go; they
merely determine where
you start”

The recent vote of confidence arranged by Theresa May’s own MPs, has enabled her to continue Brexit negotiations in Brussels, despite 117 Tory MPs voting supporting the motion of no confidence.
However, she now believes that her ‘backstop’ plan will regain some of her lost support. This plan refers to the avoidance of a hard border between Northern Ireland and Ireland. However, many critics
say that this plan will inevitably tie the UK into the EU’s rules, and curb its ability to strike trade deals. As well as this, the EU also states that it will not renegotiate the ‘backstop’ plan but it will pro-vide more assurance over its temporary nature. The uncertainty continues. However, to try and keep her Party on side, the Prime Minister has stated that she will not be leading the Conservative Party
into the next general election. This is yet another speedbump on Britain’s road to Brexit.

What if? Serious Scientific Answers to Absurd Hypothetical Questions by Randall Munroe
"What if? Serious Scientific Answers to Absurd Hypothetical Questions" is a book that contemplates complex and meaningful questions. For example, "what would happen if you tried to hit a baseball pitched at 90% the speed of light?" Or "what would happen if you place 1m cubed of eve-ry element of the periodic table next to each other?" The questions proposed in the book are completely impossible to answer with experimentation because:
a) it's physically impossible to achieve the energy required to do anything from the book
b) It’s economically impossible.
The answers that the writer provides the reader with are, most of the time, extremely destructive as shown with the question "what would happen if you place 1m cubed of eve-ry element of the periodic table next to each other?" can be summed up as the table just exploding or just not existing. Alternative questions like building a bridge from London to New York City out of Lego bricks is absurdly expensive and there are not enough Lego bricks to complete this task. What if? Serious Scientific Answers to Absurd Hypothetical Ques-tions is an interesting book with meaningful questions that make it worth to read.
