How To Prepare For A Road Trip
Oh boy, a road trip, what fun.
On the road again, I can't wait to get on the road again.
But is your vehicle as ready as you are?
Here are some things for you to check so that you can avoid the "bump in the road"
known as a broken down vehicle.
Unless you are an auto mechanic, it would be wise to have a professional perform a
diagnostic test on your vehicle.
The test will identify any
potential problems that need to be
addressed.
Wipers...check.Fluids... check. Tires...check.
Bring A GPS On Your Road Trip
Nowadays, how about bringing along a portable GPS system if there is not one
already installed in your vehicle.
These devices can warn you of accidents up ahead, help you find the nearest gas station
or restaurant.
In case of an emergency, they can also be used to help to direct emergency personal to
your location.
Do you have enough juice? Make sure that your battery is fully charged and the terminal
connections are clean.
If the connection need to be cleaned, good old baking soda and water will do the trick
nicely.
Just use a brush with some of the baking soda that has been mixed with water and
scrub those connections until they are clean as a whistle.
Does your vehicle need to go on a diet? If you want
to know your vehicles load capacity you can find
it printed inside the driver's door jam.
The rating includes the total weight of both passengers and cargo.
If part of your cargo is going to be carried by a roof rack, be aware that this is going to cause extra drag and will reduce your fuel
mileage.
A heavy roof load can also potentially be a danger if you have to make an emergency maneuver and could potentially lead to a
rollover.
Road Trip Emergency Kit
Speaking of cargo, do you have an emergency kit? Some basics include water, blankets, a flashlight, first-aid kit and some
basic tools.
Some spare snacks can also be considered as part of an emergency kit.
If your trip includes kids, then you will want to bring along some items to help to keep
them comfortable and occupied so that you do not have to answer the question, "Are we
there yet" over and over.
Movies, games, videos and course cell phones as well, can all be helpful in keeping
kids entertained as you motor down the road.
There is a lot to see across America's roadways.
Plan your own road trip soon and get you motor running.
