What Is a Record Book?

• Created by you

• Tells your 4-H Story

• Community Activities/Service

• MUST complete a Record Book to Receive Yearly Pin!

Why Should I Complete a Record Book?

• Learn how to set goals, make plans for action, decide how well you did.

• Learn skills of record keeping and organization.

• Learn to communicate and summarize.

• Learn responsibility by completing a task.

What Happens With My Record Book?

• Complete your record book and turn it in to the county youth coordinator by October 1.

• Judged by the 4-H Adult Committee.

• Receive your 4-H Yearly Pin and possibly a Project Award; Presented at 4-H Awards Night in November.

• Keepsake to share with family and friends.

• Continue adding to it each year.

• Youth are allowed to turn in only the project area documents they would like to win an award for.

personalize award certificate, a copy of William H. Danforth’s classic motivational book I Dare You! is eligible to attend the American Youth Foundation’s Leadership Conference, and is eligible to apply for the “I Dare You” Scholarship.

Her for achievement of goals, knowledge, and leadership and who shows evidence of personal growth.

Senior Division Awards

• Agriculture• recognizes young people

who have grown personally, through participation in a variety of agricultural projects and programs.

• Strengthens local 4-H units in leadership responsibilities and encourage other youth.

What to Include in Your 4-H StoryThis helps the judges get to know you!

• Introduction• Introduce yourself, your age, describe your family, include your special

interest, and tell why you are in 4-H.

• Personal Goals• Share what goals that you set to improve yourself and how you’ve grown or

changed by reaching your personal goals.

• Favorite Projects or Activity • Tell about your favorite project or activity, stress the human interest side.

Include major achievements, funny or challenging incidents, and how you have grown by completing the project.

• Leadership, Citizenship, Community Service • Summarize how you feel 4-H has helped you become a better citizen

and a better leader.

• Future Plans• Describe how participation in projects and activities will influence what

you will do next year.
