Patchwork Cushion Front Panel

1. For Layout A take all 6 of your 13in long strips and place in the following order: 2 – 1 – 3 – 2 – 1 – 3, following the layout plan on the previous page.

2. Sew all strips together with right sides facing using a ¼in seam. Press seam allowances to one side. 3. For Layout B take all 7 of your 11in long strips and place in the following order: 1 – 2 – 3 – 1 – 2 – 3 – 1

(with the two smaller of fabric 1 strips being on the outer edges), following the layout plan on the previous page.

4. Sew all strips together with right sides facing using a ¼in seam. Press seam allowances to one side. 5. From layout A (the six strip set) sub cut this into six 2in pieces, you have an inch of wastage to allow for

straightening up edges if necessary. 6. From layout B (the seven strip set) sub cut this into five 2in pieces, you have an inch of wastage to allow

for straightening up edges if necessary. 7. Arrange the 11 strips in an alternating pattern, starting and ending with a layout A strip. Sew together

using a ¼in seam allowance and press seams. This completes your patchwork cushion front!

Back Panels

1. Take your three backing rectangles cut earlier. On fabric 1 along a long edge press under ¼in then a further ¼in and topstitch. Set to one side.

2. Sew fabric 2 and 3 together along the long edge using a ¼in seam allowance and press the seam. On the remaining long side of fabric 2 press under ¼in then a further ¼in and topstitch.

Assembling the Cushion

1. Lay the fabric 2/3 section right side down on top of the patchwork front panel, with the topstitched edge of fabric 2 in the centre and the raw edge of fabric 3 lined up with the edge of the front panel.

2. Lay the remaining back section (fabric 1) right side down on top, lining the raw edge up with the raw edge of the front panel and the topstitched edge overlapping the other backing panel in the centre. Pin backing panels in place all around.

3. Stitch all around using a ¼in seam allowance. When stitching the back panels on it is helpful to have the front patchwork panel on the top facing up. This way you can ensure all the seams are laying flat and in the correct direction.

4. Finish seam allowances with a zigzag stitch or overlocker. Turn right side out and press. 5. Fill the completed cover with your cushion pad.
