How to Make a Cedar Table with a Planter in the Middle?

When it comes to choosing patio furniture, there are so many choices available out there.

Yet, most people go for aluminum furniture because of its weather resistant properties.

I for one have a liking for cedar patio furniture, since it has a very royal look and finish.

Purchasing a cedar table can be a costly affair, so here we have tried to discuss how you can

make a table from cedar with a rectangular-shaped planter sunken into the middle.

Materials required –

Medium density fiberboard sheet

Western Red cedar planks

Plastic planter (rectangular box)

Screws and screw gun

Wood glue

Sandpaper

Wooden putty

Pipe clamps

Jig saw

Table saw

Measuring tape

Paintbrushes

Procedure

This table you are going to make, will consist of five red cedar planks for the top, the

skirting, legs and the cross brace between the legs. The medium density fiberboard sheet

will be used as the template to make sure you get correct angles and measures for all the

cedar pieces.

Lay out the cedar planks to create the tabletop. Now attach the planks on the sides with the

tabletop facing downwards. Use wood glue to attach the planks together and then while the

tabletop in facing downwards, place the planter in the center and secure two pieces of wood

to center of the brace and remove the planter.

Now, attach four sides of the skirting frame and secure the skirting with the bottom of the

table with screws to from main support of the table. Attach the table legs into the four

corners of the skirting secured with screws. Now simple attach two-cross brace pieces with

opposite legs in such a way that it sits about five inches from the ground. Flip the table and

standing upright and place the planter upside down in the place marked in the center of the

table.

Fill all the spaces and joints with wood putty and flaunt it in the garden outside.
