Design purchased from www.craftsuprint.com Original design by Pamela Horton, The Whispering Platypus Page 1

This is a quick and easy method of making the sentiment you have chosen to add to the card front appear more as a feature,

rather than a simple attachment.

The following text and photographs will clearly explain each step. Measurements can be altered to serve the size you wish to

finally achieve. Here I have done several sizes, and styles, to hopefully, clearly explain, how a sentiment can be the main

feature of the card, and the same smaller ones can be an adornment.

For the smaller adornment style, as I have used on cup840978_1398, which is the card design by Ceredwyn Macrae,

“Presents in the Mailbox”, h ere are the steps you need to take.

Step 1. Using either a sentiment supplied with the sheet you have purchased, or one you have made yourself. These three

here are by Amy Perry. You can see one of these as used in the example in my gallery,

cup839206_376, called “Santa Surprise card front Topper” where I have used the sentiment supplied, and in the example

below, where I have made the same card a second time and revamped the sentiment as supplied with the sheet..

This one is using the word program.

And this one is hand written by myself.

Make a backing sheet if it doesn’t already have a frame of some sort. I always colour the edges with a permanent pen, but

that is a choice thing. (a)

The original sentiment by Amy Perry, I had printed at 2.5cm x 1cm. I then coloured the edges with green pen. I used a

Christmas backing sheet designed by Clare Walker, called” Christmas Mistletoe and Berries Background sheet”,

cup797371_79993, which I cut at 3.5 x 1.5cm, and used the green pen to colour the edges. I have used this Background

many times, and can be viewed in my gallery.

NOTE If you are worried about wobbling along the outside lines, when colouring the edges, try using a steel ruler as a

guide.

Step 2. Cut a piece of light weight card, at least 4 mm wider than the framed sentiment, and at least 3 times higher than

the original sentiment. See the examples in the photographs.

(a)The Merry Christmas sentiment tag, measures 3x 1cm. It has been coloured around the edges with a green permanent

pen. It has then been white glued onto a 200gsm Christmas backing sheet, as detailed above, which measures 3.5 x 1.5cm,

and the edges of which have been coloured with the same green pen.

(b)The Christmas Blessings sentiment tag, measures 3 x 1cm. It has been coloured around the edges with a red pen. It has

then been white glued onto a 200gsm Christmas backing sheet which measures 3.5 x 1.5cm, and the edges of which have

been coloured with a green pen. (b)

(c)The With Love Sentiment has had the same method used as the Christmas blessings, except that I used a finer nib on the

red pen. ( c)

(d) The Happy Birthday is a blank sentiment tag by Amy Perry, and I have hand written the sentiment. It measures 3 x 1cm,

and the edges have been coloured with a blue pen. The backing sheet is a print onto light weight 80gsm copy paper, which

measures 3.5x1.5, and the edges have been coloured with a blue pen. The sentiment is attached with 3 tiny D.S. padded

squares. It is then attached using Regular D.S. tape to a blue backing sheet, 4 x 2 cm,, and the edges are also coloured with a

blue pen. (d) This is the small Christmas Backing Sheet.

(e)The Someone Special is a tag design by Ceredwyn Macrae, and it measures, 5 x 1.25cm. The backing sheet is a background

sheet by Clare Walker, cup that is printed onto 200gsm card, and cut at 6 x 2.5cm. Both of these have the edges coloured in

a blue pen. The sentiment is attached with white glue. (e) This Sentiment was supplied with

the cup840658_1398, called ”Snowman and Stardust”.

(f)The largest example I have made for this tutorial is the hand written Happy Birthday. It measures from left to right, 6cm

and the height is 1.25cm. I used 200gsm white card, and coloured the edges with a blue pen. The backing sheet is a lighter

weight of card, 120gsm and is cut at 7 x 1.5cm. This backing sheet has blue coloured edges. These 2 are attached with white

glue. The next backing sheet is the same print and same weight as the smaller happy birthday tag labelled, (d).The blue

backing sheet is the same 120gsm blue card and measures 8.5 x 3.5cm. (f)

These are all very simple to make and only require the smallest amount of scrap card and paper, and very little time to

make.

If you want to make a tag, and you do not feel confident enough to hand write it. Why not try to this with the word program

on the computer.

Here is an easy Happy Valentine tag to make

Using at least 120gsm white card in the printer, and using the word program, type the words you want on the card.

Happy Valentines Day

Now go into Home, High light the sentiment, and click the down arrow in the drop down box and select a font you want to

use.

Happy Valentines Day ----This is Segoe Print. Happy Valentines Day---- This is bold

Happy Valentines day----This is Italic Happy Valentines Day----This is BLUE and then

using the font size change it, and then you make it any size you want it to be. If you have never tried this before, I can

guarantee you will have lots of fun, learn all the short cuts, and use up all your scraps as you add sentiment tags to your card

making, scrap booking, or gifts.

MAKING THE CONCERTINA FOLD

Step 3. Make a 3 step concertina fold. See the diagram and the photographs attached.

Step 3. For a tag that

measures 3.5cm wide and 1.5cm high, cut a piece of card 4cm wide and 6cm high wide. Lay the card flat onto a firm

protected surface, with the right side facing you, and measure down 2cm at each of the left and right hand edges, and score

a line across. Turn the card over so that the wrong side is now facing you, and the score line is now showing as still 2cm

down from the top, and mark 2cm up from the bottom edge and score a line from left to right. I have included the

dimensions for the larger size. The method is exactly the same, so using these proportions, or altering them in any way, will

not alter the way the 3 fold works.

Turn the card back to the right side and fold the top score line as a valley fold and

the lower score line as a mountain fold. Make sure the folds are firm and the concertina sits neatly when closed.

Here you can see the mountain fold on the left and the valley fold on the right.

Step 4. Attach the sentiment to the front mountain fold. I have used

regular D.S. tape.

Step5. Attach D.S. tape to the back of the valley fold, which is the back of the concertina, and attach the completed tag to

the card front.

The card below is the one called “Santa Surprise Card Front Topper”, and this is the second make of the same design, but

this time the 3 fold concertina method to enhance the sentiment.

. This card opens as an easel card,

so this wide opening is suitable. If it does not suit this purpose as you want, it is simple to use small padded D.S. squares, as I

have done here as an example. Here are some other ideas for finishing a tag.

This one I have completed the tag by the method above, and used D.S tape at the back of the valley fold, and closed it firmly.

I measured and punched 2 holes. One on the left at the back and one on the right at the back, and through both layers . I

then threaded a length of ribbon through these holes, long enough to be able to wrap it around a card front, or attach it to a

gift. This is the lower section, with the ribbon threaded through the 2 holes

punched through both layers that have been attached together with D.S. tape

. This lower section is the reverse side of the ribbon threading.

This view is the back of the tag

Another view of the threaded ribbon, and also showing the white backing of the sentiment.

All of the card you decide to use, is a colour choice you make when you are finishing the item yhat you wish to attach it to.

Here is the front view.

Here is anothr idea to hide the concertina. I have used scrap card to photograp it

here.

This tag is 7cmwide and 2.25cm high. I used the word program as descibed above and printed onto 200gsm card, cut it in

this shape and backed it with a blue card, again in the same shape. I made a concertina fold theat measures 5cm x 3cm. I

measured the score lines at 1cm, and followed the method above. I then attached it in the very centre of the back of the tag

I plan to attach this to some tiny roses and then have a tiny doily as a backing.

There is another way to attach a ribbon, I sometimes use the method described in step 5, and the pop up Santa Card ,

sentiment tag, and make a bow and attach it with D.S. tape, so that it is visible from under the front flap, with the bow and

tails, extending out from underneath the flap

I do hope the photographs are clear enough to follow.

Please contact me through the site if you have any difficulties in understanding the instructions.

Thank you for purchasing my tutorial.
