HOW TO LAND A POLICE JOB The reality is that you don’t just land a police job, you have to apply to the Police Academy and pass their strict criteria for acceptance and then once that milestone is achieved then the hard work begins and you enter a world of never ending learning and improvement until the day you choose to retire. The perception that you just apply and land a police job is a misconception, it takes years of hard work, education and dedication to land a police job. Firstly you need to meet certain criteria for acceptance into the police academy which will cover issues such as educational levels achieved during and post your school career, your health and fitness levels will be tested or examined, your past history will be checked to ensure that you do not have a criminal or drug profile, your moral standing in society will be checked and many other issues which may seem irrelevant to you but are significant to acceptance into the Police Academy. Once you have been accepted into the academy you will be put through a vigorous basic training course which will push your fitness levels almost beyond endurance, you will undergo firearms training and high speed driver training, you will be psychologically evaluated, have your health and fitness tested regularly and even your eyesight will be tested. You will be offered many other specialized courses at the academy that you could pursue during your time there or even later in your career. Now you have graduated as a police officer and done a stint in Community Policing, Traffic Policing or any other type of general police duties. Or you may have your heart and mind set on eventually becoming a detective in the forensic division of the police force. This again does not mean that you just land the job you have to undergo training prior to applying for a position in this or any other specialized division. The training at the police academy will equip you with all the knowledge required to become a fully fledged member of the United States Police Force and your career as a police officer finally begins. You will not automatically be enlisted in the higher ranks of the police force, you would be required to start at the bottom and gain valuable experience before working your way up the ladder of success which entails more training and education.
