Applicability of this document
This document describes how to install the dual band adapter as a retrofit option in theHorizon II macroBTS cabinet. If the dual band adapter has been supplied as part of anew Horizon II macro order, refer to the dual band adapter installation instructionscontained in the installation manual 68P02902W97, issue B or later.
About the SURF2 dual band adapter
The SURF2 dual band adapter is optional equipment designed for installation inthe Horizon II macro BTS cabinet. It allows a 900 MHz SURF2 and an1800 MHz SURF2 to be installed in the same cabinet, thus providing dual bandcapability.
Adapter description
The dual band adapter (see Figure 1) is essentially a wiring harness and SURF2support frame that plugs into the SURF2 bay in the top panel. The two SURF2sthen plug directly into the adapter frame.
The wiring harness in the base of the adapter routes the signals from the frontSURF2 to the three CTU2 slots on the right side of the cabinet and the signalsfrom the rear SURF2 to the three CTU2 slots on the left side of the cabinet. Thus, only a maximum of three CTU2s can be used for either 900 MHz or1800 MHz operation.
NOTE Either frequency SURF2 can be mounted in either slotin the dual band adapter frame.
Kit contents
The dual band adapter kit includes the following:
S 68P02902W74 (this document).
S SVLN6092, SURF2 dual band adapter.
Installation prerequisites
The prerequisites for installing and using the dual band adapter in the Horizon II macroare as follows:
S A second SURF2 that operates in the alternative frequency band to the one(s)currently installed.
S A T20 Torx driver.
S BSS software load 1670.24.t2 and OMC-R software load 1670.f. Futureavailability is planned for 1760.0b.
S Service manual 68P02902W96, issue B or later.

Installation procedure
WARNING Observe all relevant safety precautions, as described inthe service manual when carrying out this procedure.
Proceed as follows to install the dual band adapter in the Horizon II macro:
1. Remove the existing SURF2 from the BTS, using the removal proceduredescribed in Replacing a SURF2 module in the service manual.
NOTE If two SURF2s are installed, remove both of them andpack away the second SURF2.
2. Carefully lower the dual band adapter into the top panel and ensure that it
is correctly seated in the top panel.3. Secure the frame in position by tightening the two M4 mounting screws on
either end of the adapter frame to the correct torque using the T20 Torxdriver.
4. Refit the original SURF2 and fit the new alternative frequency SURF2 intothe slots in the adapter frame, using the normal SURF2 replacementprocedure described in Replacing a SURF2 module.
5. Carry out any necessary BTS reconfiguration, bearing in mind that amaximum of only three CTU2s are now available for each frequency band.
The procedure for installing the dual band adapter is now complete.
