How to Handle, what You Can’t Handle

Intro: Jesus had a Long Day. Parable of Sower – Mother of all Parables. Crossing the lake (the Storm). The Man in the land of Gad. Crossing back over.

Text: (Mark 5:21-24, 35-36)

(v22): Ruler of the Synagogue: the head of the congregation. He would control the flow of religious services, serve as judge over community disputes, and represent the congregation outside the local community. He knew all the Jewish religious leadership. He knew their limitations. He knew their dislike for and disagreements with Jesus! But his daughter was dying! He knew that the people would talk about him. But his daughter was dying! He knew that the religious leadership could disown him. But his daughter was dying! What do you do, when you have a situation that your position can’t

handle? ***Your WILL face situations in life that exceed your ability! ***There are people here today with situations that are at the BRINK of death! Don’t wait until your situation is Dead! Jairus would have never come to Jesus if his daughter was already dead!

(v22): He fell at his feet: ***Your desire for a breakthrough MUST exceed your concern for maintaining a façade. ***Your desire for a change MUST trump the fear of what your friends might think! Book with 5 Chapters! Are you ready for a change today? If they are truly your friends, they want the best for you!

(v23): My little daughter lieth at the point of death: Don’t sugar-coat the situation (put down the façade today). Be honest with yourself and be honest with God today! How bad is it? Don’t call what IS, as if it IS NOT! Call what is NOT, as if IT IS!

Key #1: Engage God IN PRAYER! (v23): I pray thee: You have not, because you ask not (James 4:2). God will NOT force Himself upon you. Jesus would NOT have forced Himself upon Jairus. You have to Engage God IN PRAYER! Prayer is earthly license for heavenly interference!

Poem – THE DIFFERENCE! How do you handle what you can’t handle? You engage God in prayer! Get God involved in your situation. Welcome Him to move. Release Him to move. John Wesley once said, “God does nothing except in answer to prayer.”

***Without God we CANNOT, without MAN He WILL NOT! Key #2: Activate God IN FAITH! (v23): come and lay thy hands on her, that she may be healed; and she shall live: Faith speaks the desired outcome! God looked at Darkness and spoke light (creation). God looked at a man without children and called him a Father of many

nations (Abraham). God looked at a weakling and called him a Warrior (Gideon). Jairus looked at his situation and spoke His desired outcome! God responds to FAITH! If you don’t pray IN FAITH, you are wasting your time! Jesus said, “According to your faith be it unto you” (Mat 9:29). The Centurion had the faith that said, “You don’t have to even come to my

house.” But Jairus did not have that level of faith. Why did Jesus not just SPEAK healing over the little girl, because that is NOT where Jairus’ faith was!

How do you handle what you can’t handle? You speak words of prayer and words of faith!

Faith activates God! Jesus responded to his words of faith! Key #3: Wait on God IN PATIENCE! (v36): As soon as Jesus heard the word that was spoken, he saith unto the ruler of the synagogue, Be not afraid, only believe: Patience is the force of consistency.

(James 5:10,11 MSG) Take the old prophets as your mentors. They put up with anything, went through everything, and never once quit, all the time honoring God. What a gift life is to those who stay the course!... Jesus knew that the bad news caused Jairus to be gripped with fear! The devil knew that words of faith got Jesus to start and words of fear

could get Jesus to stop! But Jesus stopped him before he said ANTYTHING! Be not afraid, only believe: In other words… Just keep believing! No matter what it looks like – Don’t’ give up! No matter what it looks like – Don’t change your confession! Don’t allow what you SEE to change what you SAY! Speak the Word ONLY!

***If you can’t SPEAK FAITH, DON’T SAY ANYTHING! ***(James 1:5-7) You MUST remain consistent – in the Space between Your Confession and the Completion - if you want your breakthrough!
